It had been while since I ran an insulated jacket before I decided to pull the trigger on this guy - so naturally I was little bit skeptical. Skepticism has now left me after a season of running this thing hard. I want to buy another for this year but I just cant justify it as the one from last year is still running strong. This jacket is warm and waterproof. The 10k holds up in pretty much every storm I've encountered in Utah and Washington. While maybe not the best in the pissing rain it can stand up to some pretty wet conditions.
It comes with all the extras every peice from 686 comes with - pit-zips, pow skirt, retractible pass, big interior pocket. This jacket is dope, it looks like a military jacket and serves a similiar utility. Tons of pockets to put all your shit in (stuffing a 6 pack in this larry is no trouble at all).
This is why I really like this jacket: It's a little bit of slim fit so I can where it with my Reserved Raw pants. In the past slim fit jackets have been problematic for me because it is hard to fit enough layers under them on the cold days. However with this jacket the 40 g polyester insulation is warm enough that you can wear significantly less layers than you would with a normal jacket. Slim fit that works. Also notable, the polyester fill, unlike down, will keep you warm in the wettest conditions.
I'm 5'10" and 155lbs and the Med fits like a dream, even with my beverages. A great jacket for everyone looking for something a little bit warmer without the super puff look. 10k, with 40g's of fill = dry, and warm. Pair this with a pair of reserved raws and you bee stoked!
