Adidas Terrex Fast R Mid GTX Reviews:

Positive Reviews:

Here we go for the Terrex FAST R GTX, as I have had them for three months now, with several hikes in rain, some heat and various terrain.
-Fit is true to size. I am a 10 1/2, with a mid volume foot. They fit like, well, glove for you foot.
-Lacing system is similar to lots of other brands. They use a little slider thingy so you can dial in the lacing from the toe box to the top. The little button that depresses in order to slide the "laces" does not work very well on mine. A minor annoyance overall.
-Amazing traction, in nearly any condition or surface. It's like magic. Down hill braking is excellent, the sides grip well during class 3/4 scrambling, almost like an approach shoe with randing. Excellent on scree, rock, water rock, you name it. Yes, on really rugged trails, you will feel sharp-edged rocks; but these are basically sneakers on steroids and NOT a mountaineering boot, so that is to be expected. But even though I could feel the sharp rocks and stuff, they didn't bother me at all...even after long days, no bruising or sore feet.
-When I took them out of the box and saw the construction and light weight, I thought they would wear down quickly like my Inov8 360 Para's did. Not so! These are WAY tougher and much better on your feet than those overpriced hunks of junk.
-Ankle support is good for how light this hybrid hiker is. I found myself not worrying about rolling my ankles...they will hold up, even under a load.
Overall, I love this "boot", or super sneaker, whatever it is. I find that I go faster and harder for longer wearing the Terrex. No, this is not a Viagra review, but these Adidas do make me feel younger in that 'special way'. I love them. The start of a beautiful relationship...

Just took the Terrex Fast T mid GTX for 31 miles on the Appalachian Trail from Springer Mountain to Jarrod Gap and then back to Woody Gap and I love them. They are lightweight but still relatively supportive. Good support from the Adidas in-sole. Theses aren't as rigid as other boots it I prefer to have some mobility and it didn't seem to affect my ability to carry 35 lbs in my backpack. I have a light arch and the top of my foot sits very high so sometimes finding shoes that accommodate this is hard (Vasque boots fit the best) but these were very comfortable, look great too! Oh yeah, the speed tie system is easy and works well.

I am delighted with this boot. They are extremely light, but provide excellent ankle support and cushion. I am 6-1 and weigh 220 lbs. The soles have incredible grip. It took a while for me to to get used to the wire lacing system, but now I find it far superior to traditional laces. My only concern is what happens if they break? I had to replace the insoles with Super Feet(orange) insoles because I need additional support for heel problems. I have to do this with every shoe/boot I wear. I've had numerous comments too about their appearance: Very cool looking.

Shoe runs a little narrow, so I experienced some ankle bone rubbing on one foot. After a few days, the shoe broke in and the discomfort went away. Not the easiest shoes to get into, but once in, there is great support. The quick lace system is stiff and takes some patience to operate. The Continental tire sole offer superb traction.

Great, comfortable hiking shoe. My only complaint is the lacing system. It works great at first and then it gets clogged up by dirt/sand and it is very hard to adjust them when this happens. I ended up cutting them off and replacing them with regular shoe laces.

I bought these for my husband and he loves them. He uses them for things like hiking, taking the dogs to the park. They are lightweight, keep his feet dry and really comfortable. They fit true to size. Hope this helps!

Negative Reviews:

I waited for a year for the original release of this shoe, and bought them from the first US vendor that carried them. I wore them for two weekend trips and gave them to a friend who has smaller feet. I wear a size 12 in every type of Adidas I have ever worn, but these shoes were narrow, do not break in a little wider, and are difficult to take on and off if you have large feet. If you have thick ankles, the Fast R's are even worse, because the speed lacing system only offers tight, tighter, and painful. Also, the laces are very wiry so if you need to tighten them manually it feels like they are cutting into your fingers. I gave these shoes to a friend who wears size 10.5 and he enjoys them, although they are not waterproof to submersion in a creek or wet trail situation. We both still think they are some of the coolest looking boots out there, and while not particularly cushioned, they are surprisingly supportive for such a light design.

Not a dialed in fit as I had hoped. Also the waterproof specs did not meet my expectations. I have trudged through some streams in these hikers and have come out with wet feet, even just hiking in the rain my feet end up wet every time. They are fairly comfortable but they tend to rub the outside of my foot near my pinky toe. Also, the lacing system if convenient and quick but it doesn't dial in the fit as you could do with normal laces. Maybe my feet have the wrong shape for these hikers. I've thought about it and am convinced that I could not go a half size up or down. My foot also moves from side to side on uneven terrain while hiking.
I hoped for a bit more in this hiker but was let down unfortunately.

the mid GTX had a very rigid tongue and as i wore it around the house it was very uncomfortable.
i did purchase the same model but in the low version and it is awesome.

Fit is too tight

I could not even get the shoe on because it was so tight. Unfortunatley, Adidas doesn't offer wide sizes
