Wish it was longer...
The only downside I can think of is that the cord is too short. Yes, I knew full well it was only 3ft long. In most cases, 3ft is plenty long, but when photographing children in the studio, I like to be able to get down on their level and interact with them. With a long release cable, I can't be right down in the mix and not tethered to the camera.
My next remote release will be wireless, but this one will stay in the bag as a back up.
I mostly use this when I hook the camera to a T-mount and shoot through my telescope. Focus is manual with a knob and holding this in my left hand I can manipulate the scope with my right and take great long distance shots. Fits in hand, I can use it with gloves. Only thing that could make it better is if it had a retractable cord.
This cable release is exactly what I wanted. It allows use of a long lens on a tripod without the shake that occurs when the shutter is released.
The only improvement I would like to see is either a longer cable or the availability of an extender cable. This would allow you to be other than right next to the camera while shooting.
It works perfectly on my XTI. I did find a need for a little longer cord as others mentioned, but overall it works fine. I had been using the IR remote but this is much better as I dont have to be in front of the camera to use it. I only wish I had gotten it sooner. Good product
Does its job
Unlike some of the other reviews, I've experienced nothing that would make me believe that this will suddenly stop working. Since this is something I use only occasionally, I saw no need to purchase a more expensive release. Just hanging out at the house, I've used it for at least 100 shots and there have been no hiccups.
Canon G12 remote trigger
Got exactly what I was hoping for. The G12 has a hair trigger on the shutter, and when shooting HDR or pseudo-miniature shots (or Macros, for that matter), even the slightest movement of the body ruins the shot. This remote allows me to get the shot and mirrors the on-body controls. Click, focus and hold functions work well.
you need it. buy it.
i am writing this review on my mother's behalf. i purchased this switch for her, after using one myself made for my 20D for a few years now. she loves it. 'just like i love mine. if you use a tripod, you have a need for this switch, so buy it. you'll be happy with the purchase.
works like a charm
This works exactly as it says it should, and it has the appropriate connection for my Canon Digital Rebel XTi. Under the rubber "video out" flap is a jack specifically for the release. I've taken some stellar long exposures using this, and it's compact enough to fit nicely in a side pocket of my Lowepro bag.
Useful product, Works as advertised
Works quite well, no problems. A longer cord would be a nice option (6 to 8 feet). Standing right next to the camera makes it more a 'hands off' shutter control rather than a true 'remote'. Even with this limitation it improves macro and close up work by reducing camera jiggle.
Very Good Value
Hm, let me think, do I spend $xx on Canon's release or $xx/1.77 on Adorama's? The answer is Adorama! It plugs in, you can go to the focus position and then trip the shutter. It can also be locked on. Just as good as Canon and nearly half the price/
