  • Perfect for 2 paddlers, this foldable canoe has enough gear-holding capacity for multiday expeditions
  • Plastic, molded seat can be adjusted for sitting or kneeling positions and for adjusting the canoe's trim
  • Approximate setup time is 30 min. with 2 people; 1 hr. with a single person

  • Long, slightly rockered keel enhances maneuverability in waves, and 37.5 in. width makes for a very stable ride
  • Slightly shorter than its 17 ft. sibling, the Ally 16.5 DR foldable canoe offers high maneuverability should you take on moving water
  • 44 lb. weight means you'll have an easy time portaging, and the flexible feel to the boat means you'll glide easily over chop and waves
  • Package includes canoe (skin, seats, foam mat, chines, keel, ribs, gunwales, bow and stern), a mallet for assembly and a repair kit

Ally 16.5 DR Folding Canoe Reviews:

Amazing Design and Durability

I used the ALLY 16.5 DR (known as the 811 on their website) for a 70-day expedition across Mongolia and Siberia, and it performed exceptionally. We paddle everything from steep, bony Class 3 rivers to big swift braided rivers, and small ponds to Lake Baikal, the biggest lake on earth. In all these conditions, this boat performed. When we finished the trip, the canoe was ready to go do it again.

Set up took about 45 minutes the first time, but after that was about 15 minutes to set up, and 10 to take down. This was a huge asset, as we could hit the beach in a town and in 15 minutes flag down a tiny little Soviet Lada sedan, and fit two people, paddles, packs, and a canoe in the back. We also took the train with the canoe, easily fitting it in the luggage racks, or when flying to and from Asia, checking it at no cost.

It has enough rocker to be quite maneuverable in whitewater, and actually has some stem-to-stem flex, making it ride wave trains well. The soft hull slides over rocks, and ended up being much more durable than we expected- no holes or scratches despite some hard expedition use.

On flat and calm water, it tracks well and can maintain decent speed.

This is a durable, versatile expedition craft that can go anywhere.

I just ordered a new one of these

I bought this in 1985 in Kotzebue, Alaska from two Swiss men who paddled the upper half of the Kobuk river then hiked with the canoe over the mountains to the Noatak River and paddled to Kotzebue. I live on an Ocean Island and use it to transport heavy items to and from my house. It is incredibly durable and has been dragged across beaches with rocks and barnacles and I have never had a repair. The combinations of the vinyl and the foam hull deflect sharp objects from penetrating. It is so light that two people can walk for miles carrying it while assembled. It is flexible in waves and handles rough water just fine. When paddling it empty alone I use a kayak paddle to keep it from spinning in circles. I can't say enough good things about this product. I am purchasing a new one. After 28 years in salt water conditions, the aluminum is finally staring to give out. Had I kept it indoors it would still be like new. This product is not for beginners if it is paddled without weight in it.
