A Tent Large Enough for an Echo

Rating:****
When the tent arrives at your home you quickly realize this is no backpacking tent. The "Alps Mountaineering Pineridge Wilderness Tent" niche is car camping with the family and to that end it does it quite well. The ground tarp appears to be fairly thick and sturdy but I would recommend still using a ground cover. I was able to set the tent up myself but two people would certainly make quick work of it. The external zippers are designed so that a portion of the tent's material covers the path (rain protection?) but I found that if you are not careful the material sometimes catches in the zipper. Once set-up, you find that that this is a very roomy tent. At 6'4", this is the only tent I have found that I can stand-up in. The tent's main door is quite ample and the doors on each side of the tent allow easy egress for those late night "tree-runs" without having to step over other sleeping occupants. I would not want to get caught in a downpour with heavy winds in this tent as the rain fly minimally covers the venting material. I could see water being easily driven into the tent. This is not a high-end tent with all the features and functionality that are available in tents today. But if your goal is affordable family camping in mild weather, this could be your tent.

Deal of the Year for Quality Family Tent

Rating:****
Three doors on this tent, which is not stated in the specs and is awesome. Two people are necessary to set it up without a lot of aggravation. The main center dome is freestanding, but at least four stakes will be needed to fully open up the side rooms. I think it is the deal I have been waiting for, and I love the colors. It has not been camped in yet, and I worry a little about the way the poles attach at the bottom with spikes that go up inside a couple inches. A fabric sleeve would have been more solid. They pull out easily if you pull up at all. I believe it will be excellent with a decent stake job, however. That should tighten things up nicely. I have only set it up in the backyard so far. I wouldn't want to be caught in a deluge in this tent because the fly is rather small, but we'll see...The floor is a pretty heavy duty tarp material, which is nice and durable. Still, I will probably use another tarp underneath just to keep it cleaner/less condensation. For the price, this tent is amazing. I know it will be solid with a decent stake job. Highly recommended if you want TONS of room and don't want to spend a fortune!

Family Friendly

Rating:****
We are a family of 6 and happy about the size of this tent. We will all fit in with extra room to spare. Rain fly is small and concerned about heavy rain. It has three doors which will be a plus with so many people. Standing room in middle. We are pleased with our purchase.

Looks are good, not sure of value

Rating:****
We haven't had the chance to really use, from the setup in our backyard, it seems simple enough. Not sure of all the features, again, haven't been able to use. Looks great, some features we had in prevous tent. I would like to rate at another time due to this.

Spacious Tent

Rating:****
Great tent for it price! Tent seems to be flimsy due to the winds we had. Entrance zipper seems to get caught a lot. Other than that, Spacious Tent!!

great for big family

Rating:*****
We use one room for adults, one for the kids, and room three is for clothing and dressing. Works great for our family.

Setting up seems to put a lot of pressure on the poles. Once up it is great!!

Water, water everywhere!

Rating:*
We purchased this tent for a family camping trip and it seemed ideal at first. The floorspace is amazing and setup was easy and quick. I am 6'4" and could stand nearly upright inside. There are plenty of doors and windows so ventilation is good. With the guylines it held up reasonably good in some gusty winds, considering the high profile. Then came the first rain. It was merely a light drizzle yet water made it inside the tent in record time. The fly is way too small but even where it did cover, it was pretty much useless. Water came through all seams, zippers and even through the material itself. We actually had to cut our visit to Sequoia NP short when a thunderstorm hit in the afternoon and we had to evacuate the tent and make a run for the nearest hotel. Fortunately, there were no further storms for the remainder of our trip but I bought two tarps to span over the tent, just in case. Needless to say I returned the tent after we got back home. [...]Bottom line: Buy this tent only if you are certain there will be no rain where you are camping.

Careful with this tent!

Rating:**
We purchased this tent with the hope of camping with our small children. My husband and I love the outdoors and want to share it with our kids...we have 2 other tents and both are more durable than this one. The tent was easy to set up...only 5 poles, including the fly. However, once we got inside, we realized how fragile the floor was (it's made of a tarp material) and how much the poles pulled at the seams. The seams don't appear to be reinforced in any way. We were afraid to let our kids even walk in the tent. The floor is way too fragile to be used with children and this tent is definitely not for us. It definitely needs a bathtub floor if they're going to use cheap tarp material for it. I think we'll be sending it back.

leaks everywhere

Rating:*
Well, Sierra Trading Post usually has great stuff, but this wasn't a high-scorer. First, it came missing two poles, so we had to use two from a different tent we have-not a good beginning to the weekend. Second, it leaked throughout the tent when it rained that night - lightly, i might add - even though i had seam-sealed the fly during the day, just to be on the safe side. Too bad, 'cause it has some nice features, and is easy to set up, but the leakage was definitely a deal-breaker!!!

Very leaky tent!

Rating:*
The fly was a hassle to set up, and in the end it was completely inadequate. Don't camp with this tent in the rain - you'll drown in your sleep. Despite complete staking, small lakes formed under the side windows/doors which were not covered by the fly. Additionally the loose fabric around the door got caught in the zipper constantly - this tent was a complete dissapointment.
dkaenj at Sierra Trading Post on 05/19/2008

the leakiest tent I have ever had

Rating:*
Water leaked through the fly and the top of the tent. all zippers leaked leading to standing water. we had to place many plastic sheets all over the tent to stop the leaks. zipper catches zipper cover frequently. the tent is quite spacious.

Fair weather tent

Rating:*
Do not buy this tent if you plan to camp in the rain. Is not waterproof at all. Got rained on for 4 days straight and every time it was a nightmare. Bring your canoe to float away in.

Neutral Reviews:

nice size, not too big or too small

Rating:***
I like the size--it set up easily. I was disappointed at the thinness of the tent material. In fact, the fabric "pockets" that the poles insert into already have begun to show wear after only one use! (Although the tent did blow over due to high wind we weren't expecting and therefore didn't have it anchored yet--that may have stressed the pockets.
