The distinctive foot-shaped toe box gives toes more room to work properly; the Zero Drop™ platform allows a more natural, efficient foot strike that helps reduce joint impact, shin splints and forefoot pain. A dual-density, 5mm cushioned footbed rides atop a 12mm, dual-layer cushioned midsole providing essential shock absorption and responsiveness. Altra Instinct 1.5 Review
Before this shoe, I ran in the NB minimus zero for 6-7 months, which is more similar to a racing flat. Although running ultras is doable in the NB M0, the Altra is a much more comfortable shoe for long runs. Where as the NB minimus is like a Porsche GT3, the Altra is the Panamera. Bottom line - this is still my favorite "minimal shoe" and would give it 5 stars if the sole was more flexible.

I normally wear a 10.5 in Nikes, but I wear an 11 in these. I run in these a couple of times a week. I think these are very good shoes. It does all it says it should do. Zero drop, some cushioning, wide toe box, light package, good looks.
