Stellar but not for quick donning

These were so very expensive but I bought them prior to a mountaineering course because the Marmots fit terribly, the Patagonias were worse, the OR were out of my size, and the REI were of dubious waterproofness. I am 5'4" and about 130 lbs. Somehow the XS fit like a glove - literally - with my softshell pants and baselayer under. So all those articulated parts were imperative. Wearing these, I felt like I had only one waterproof skin and perfect range of motion. get them on I basically had to lie down. Now they are lost and I'm debating getting a second pair. Nothing beats their waterproofness.

These pants accompanied me on 2 mountaineering courses, 2 trips on Mt St Helens, and a three-day hike in the Olympic rainforest in the pouring rain, and multiple short rainy hikes.

My only complaint is that the elastic waist is not stitched down, so the elastic folds up inside it - a stupid problem in something so expensive.

If there were a full zip version and the waist were stitched at one or two points, they would be perfect.

Not What I Expected

I have to send these pants back. The specs say the inseam is 29", but the size L is received measures 33" which is way too long for my 5'5" height. The reason I ordered this pair was specifically for the shorter inseam. I did not wear them other than to try them on, so I can't comment on their serviceability, but they seem like they would work well if you are taller than me. I tried them on over hiking pants and there was more than enough room in the seat and leg, in fact, maybe more than needed. They looked kind of poofy on me, and I am not slim. There are ankle-to-knee zippers in legs and boot hooks at the hem which are not mentioned in the description. There are no pockets, and without side zippers at the waist, access to my hiking pants pockets would be very difficult.

Odd fit

I ordered the large because a previous comment indicated that the large has a long inseam, and I am tall. Indeed, they are long enough for me (5'11"). Because of the drawstring, I can pull them tight enough in the waist. However, there is a LOT of material in the back. These are not designed for more boyish or even average builds. I am going to order the medium and hope they are long enough, as reviews on other sites indicate they are suitable for mountain backpacking and the weather that comes with that. I also have a rain jacket by the same company that is excellent, so I trust the quality of the material. I can't make my final recommendations on this product until I receive and try on the smaller size.
