The Arc'teryx Women's Thorium AR Down Jacket is a durable, versatile piece for your winter wardrobe. Wear it to and from class, hiking to the final climb of the season in the Tetons, or under a shell while taking your 2-year-old niece on a sled-ride through the last gasps of a record-breaking blizzard. Regardless of how you spend your time, the Thorium jacket will protect you from the cold, alone or under another layer.
The designers at Arc'teryx know a thing or two about exposure, and what parts of a jacket are exposed to the most water. You don't rely on your tummy to tell you its raining, and as such, the Thorium AR jacket core consists of snuggly warm 750-fill goose down. In contrast, the area in front of your mouth, as well as the shoulders, are insulated with synthetic Coreloft, since synthetic insulation handles a whiff of wet without sacrificing its warmth. When the rain starts to tap-dance on your shoulders or you're letting off a lot of hot air while working hard to set a pitch or climb a hill, you'll stay warmer a bit longer due to strategic placement of the synthetic and down insulation.
The jacket itself is made from 40D mini-ripstop nylon taffeta and treated with DWR to buy you a little time if you're not within jumping distance of a shelter and the deluge occurs. If you travel for adventure, space and weight are matters of great importance. The Thorium AR weighs a modest 11oz and packs down into the included stuff sack. Bring the extra chocolate since you have both weight and space to spare, and it never hurts to have bribes ready when it comes to doing dishes on a winter camping trip.
The Arc'teryx Women's Thorium AR Jacket utilizes two kinds of insulation that are strategically mapped to give you warmth where you need it most. Synthetic insulation can handle moisture better than goose down, so the Coreloft is placed along the hem, collar, sleeves and underarms (moisture-prone zones). The 700-fill down is stuffed around your torso to trap your heat and warm your core. The end result is the perfect mid-layer for heading deep into the backcountry. They say if you go deep enough into the backcountry, you'll reach a point where only people with Arc'teryx jackets can reach. They just hang out and eat granola. Pretty cool.

This Jacket is awesome. At least a dozen (men) stopped me in the first 2 weeks I wore this jacket to comment on it. I got the Orange jacket. The color is very eye-catching. The style is slim fitting. I love the attached stuff sack in the left pocket. I travel between Chicago, Houston and Tucson and it adjusts to my body temp well. When it gets too warm I can jam it in my bag because the stuff sack is small than a football. This late-fall, it has been my go-to outer garment. Love it!
