Could be the centerpiece of your backcountry ski system

Like any gear that blurs boundaries, it does most of what you want, just not as well as the ideal layer. So it breathes and wicks, but not aw well as a Paty R1 Hoody. It provide wind resistance, but not as much as any windstopper layer. It sheds cold snow for a few hours, but eventually wets out. Where this stinkin thing shines is that it does a bit of everything well. I find that I can wear it all day in the backcountry while others are messing with their layers, shells etc. It's the only layer I've found where I can skin in and ski out in full winter conditions and not sweat to death or freeze heading downhill.

Arcteryx Men's Acto MX Hoody

I had the chance to try this jacket on recently and I found it to be an amazing piece of equipment that I can't live without. You can rock it on it's own or use it for layering. It is super versatile and extremely technical. Perfect for any outdoor enthusiast. The liner is a fleece grid that can let heat out while wearing it alone or keep heat in if you are layering. Use this for anything you do in the snow. Not to mention it has a lifetime warranty. Awesome!

Extremely Versatile, but not quite perfect

This has become my go-to jacket for almost everything mountain-related. The fabric is fairly wind-resistant (blocks like 85-95%, I'd guess), quite water-resistant, and extremely breathable. I use this jacket for ice climbing, snowshoeing, and pretty much every other winter activity. I don't use it for backcountry skiing though, because it is a little chilly with the 5-15% of wind going through the jacket). Fabulous!

I got the acto MX hoody on Cyber Monday and just received it today. It's light, but warm and fits my body to a T. I'm 5"5' and 130 pounds for reference. My only complaint is that I ordered cardinal, but got sent brimstone instead, which just did not flatter my skin tone. The nice folks at Moosejaw fixed the problem for me and I should receive the new one soon!

Extremely Versatile, but not totally perfect.

Great jacket! This has become my go-to jacket for almost everything in the mountains. With that said, it's not perfect. To read an in-depth review with pictures, check out gearthirty.blogspot.com

Sweet!

Great for XC ski! Layer with a light layer on real cold days. Nice trim fit. Size runs true.
