Comfy Hoodie

I purchased this to replace/improve on an 800 fill down jacket I have and love but wanted a hood and some waterproofing. I really like this item but it is aptly named "Hoodie" not jacket. It's not as warm as the down (to be expected) and doesn't regulate body temp as well. I can wear the down at 30degrees or 80 (yes really) without overheating. This hoddie takes longer to correct body temp and taking the dogs out this morning at 40deg my back and arms were noticeably cold and not warming up. But I am just over-warm when wearing it in the car. With an added shell it probably would be perfect for outside, but I want a one piece.

I am keeping it because it is a wonderful hoodie. In a cold drafty house or cabin this is perfect. Light and flexible enough you forget you even have it on! Water repellant is good, but the cuffs will get wet then stay soggy for a while. it's probably great as a mid-layer for more technical use.

Fit and style: I have a short torso with small shoulders (S/M t-shirt) and generous hips (12/14 pant). I purchased an XL. Of course the shoulders are roomy but not silly looking, the length comes to just below the bum pocks on my jeans. The stretchy side panels make it more flexible over my hips, especially if i'm wearing lots of layers. They also allow for a flattering feminine look. I am enjoying this as a Hoodie and purchased a different jacket for outdoor use.

Great Hoddie

I like this jacket a lot! I originally bought it as a light hoodie to wear when it was just a smidge cold, but I think it works best as a layering base jacket than just an everyday hoodie. It is not that warm when you wear it as the only layer. If you double up though- it is a great base.

The material is great for windy days and easy for light camping as I can fold it up very small. The hood is hard to keep on if you're only wearing the jacket but stays put when under another hood.

I do dock this jacket a little bit because it is already falling apart at the zipper with threads coming loose. I expect a lot from Arcteryx products so I am a bit disappointed I have it coming apart after only a few months with no heavy use.

Overall though, I am still very happy with this. It is hard to get it dirty and I appreciate the banded wrist openings to prevent the cold from getting in. It also has a nice inside pocket. Very Pleased.

intelligent fashion staple

I am a fan of insulated softshells, but Arc'Teryx hit one out of the park with the ATOM LT HOODY! I am 5'5", 128 lbs, 47 yrs old, active; and style and function are key for me. I enjoy high-quality fashion apparel which transfers over to my sports gear… What sold me on this jacket was its relaxed, sporty look and silky smooth surface and weight! Features that have made this my new 'go to' are its versatility (urban casual, sport), storage (3 pkts), technical muscle (great in all conditions-great for layering), smart, stylish fit (slimming) and it's "stow and go" capability (I stuff if into a 4-Litre sack and stow it in my computer backpack or duffle/suitcase when not needed- it goes everywhere with me).

I have received more compliments than I can count and because it has exceeded my expectations with its value added benefits, I would not only recommend it, but will more than likely purchase one of these in another color.

Great piece for bike commuting!

I use this coat nearly everyday on my bike rides around town and casual wear in late fall, winter and early spring. During the coldest months I layer this coat under a hard shell and I stay super warm. One of my favorite things about it is how packable it is. I live in Denver, where it's considerably warmer during the day than at night, so it's GREAT to be able to stuff this coat in my bag during the day and have it ready for my ride home at night. It might be a little too warm for long rides (more time for your body to heat up) but for 5 miles or less it's perfect. It's also incredibly comfortable and so far has held up to rough and frequent use. Because I love it so much, I bought the same product in a vest, too. Final note, it looks great and in is stylistically versatile in black.

Wish it fit me!

I'm amazed that one of the reviews above said the sleeves were too long! I am 5'9" 130 lb. and the sleeves are too short on the medium and the largem and the shoulders are a bit narrow. If I chose the XL, I was absolutely swimming in the torso and bottom hem. Also, I find the arms on this jacket simply way too tight. When I bend my elbows, everything binds up. Girls do have muscles, you know, and their clothing needs to be big enough to let the arms expand and contract.

I love the jacket, but I ended up with a Men's Small. Fits me perfectly, without all the extra chest darts for body parts that are not large enough to fill up that space, and the shoulders are wide enough for me, arms long enough, etc. Just wish there were more color choices in the men's version.

Best purchase I've made in a long while.

I live in NC where it doesn't get too cold, but we'll have temps in the 20s regularly, especially with this colder winter. I purchased this on an impulse and have been happy with it ever since. It's not too hot, but it's warm in very cold temps. It's super super lightweight and packs well.

With a base layer and wool sweater, I can go out with the jacket in high teens and still feel toasty. In colder temps, like low teens and single digits, I treat it as a mid-layer and put on another coat.

The hood makes all the difference in cranking up the warmth factor. I unexpectedly love the tapered sleeves for warmth and easy fit under another coat.

It's stylish in an understated way. I can't say enough good things.

A good start!

This is a great jacket for a great price ($200 for an ArcTeryx jacket is very inexpensive). The fit is good. It's long enough that I don't get a draft when I sit down or bend over. The sleeves seem a tad long, but the cuffs are just tight enough that they don't slip down over my hands. I have been looking for a jacket like this for YEARS! I wanted something that I could wear alone or with a fleece underneath or also under a rain shell for extra warmth and that had a hood. The only thing I would like it to have are pit zips. It's just really nice to have some extra ventilation. This thing packs down to next to nothing (I can fit it into a medium sized handbag!) I would absolutely recommend this.
that_girl at REI on 10/10/2009
I tried several different jackets, and this one fit and looked the best. It's a keeper! I'm 5'4" and 105lbs., have an hourglass shape, and am slightly bigger through the hips than the chest/shoulder area. I ordered a size small, and it fits perfectly. The length of the jacket is just right...not short and not long either. It's light, but warm for it's weight, and the stretch panels on the sides make it breathable and more comfy. The drawstring at the bottom allows you to keep out drafts. The jacket looks nice, and I can actually wear it to work in addition to general use and outdoor use. I've been a Patagonia fan for years, but their new sizing and designs don't seem to fit me very well. I've had much better luck with Arcteryx lately.

Superb all-round jacket

I've used this jacket about a month in a range of conditions; moderate, cold (30 degree), very windy or light rain and snow. I've been astonished how warm it is for it's slimness and light weight. It has become my go-to jacket for most circumstances and for travel.
I originally bought it because it felt so great in the store - silky, yummy and yet technically capable. The side panels provide ventilation without letting the wind in. The knit cuffs haven't pilled, are long enough to pull over my knuckles, and stretch if I want to pull them up.
I recommend this highly, one friend has already gone to get one for herself. I'd love additional color choices.
dfl at REI on 10/10/2009

Feels like this jacket is tailored for me! (as does my other arcteryx shell- they make some great products!)- I'm slender and tall and amazed at the slimming fit with a torso and sleeves that are plenty long. It's very lightweight but so very warm. Also I love that the hood is NOT made to wear over a helmet-so I can wear this around town and not look goofy with some hugely oversized hood! Oh, and the bud color is great- I was a little unsure but in person it's not an obnoxiously loud color, it's feminine and fun! Buy it, you won't regret it!

Negative Reviews:

Pros: I fell in love with this jacket in Canada so I bought it right away when I got home because it's time to replace a primaloft jacket I've had for 4 yrs. The Atom LT Hoody is super warm for it's weight, comfortable and cozy. I bought it to use as a light outer layer for hiking and warmer mid layer for the cooler backpacking nights and the hood is not stiff and is comfortable worn up or down. Cons: Unfortunately, the zipper is faulty. The slightest pull causes it to slide down, it does not lock at all at the top or in the middle and this is unacceptable for dedicated use against the elements. It slips down while removing the hood or putting it on, swinging arms side to side/ climbing motion; any movement that causes a pull on the front panels. I looked at the zipper at 3 different stores, all different colors and they are all the same. Too bad, considering Arc'teryx' reputation for quality gear. Hopefully their QC will fix it sooner rather than later and re-release a better version in the future.

Neutral Reviews:

Fabulous coat except...

I initially LOVED this coat, but then I began to notice that the zipper would unzip with the slightest bit of tension. If I stretched my arms back, I wore bulkier clothing underneath, or my purse put the slightest bit of tension on the coat, the zipper would slide down. I went back to REI to check the other Atom Hoodies. Every single one of the women's coats unzipped with minimal traction applied while the men's version held fast. Must be a zipper design flaw...bummer.
IheartRosco at REI on 12/12/2012
Very packable and nice color (lighter than picture). Not sure I like the stretchy side panels. Kind of short. Should size up if you want to layer. Will return for the SV (severe weather) model to ensure warmth.
