Arc'teryx Beta SL Jacket Reviews:

I bought this coat back in the fall of 2009. Since then it has been through heavy backpacking in the wilds of Montana, endured torrential downpours in Turkey, and faced rough abrasions from limestone coast lines in Malta
I love this coat. Arc'Teryx makes the best quality zippers hands down with their waterproof seams. After torrential downpours many coats start to seep through at the seams but this coat is not even phased by it.
My longest day in this coat was from a 6 am wake up to an 8:30 p.m. bedtime with alternations between heavy drizzle and steady downpour. I never felt a dropof rain the entire day except when I took my hood down.
I like that the build is long in the back because when I sit down it is just long enough to cover my bum if the rocks are wet. Also the cinches around the base of the coat are really excellent for when you want to keep heat trapped inside.
This coat often serves me as both a raincoat and as another layer of insulation. In Montana we hit some pretty heavy trails in the middle of June when snow is still pretty thick. After putting on my warmer layers I top off with this and cinch in the bottom for extra heat. It not only keeps my layers dry but it also takes the rough abrasions of pines and rocks. Sap washes off easily.
While the coloring is starting to go a little bit at the cuffs where it gets the most work, the thing is still completely and utterly waterproof. If for some reason this coat ever fails me I will gladly spend the money to buy another one.
Sizing: Typically with other brands I swing M size. However the Arc'Teryx L size is better for my shoulders. Also I like my raincoats a little bigger because that way you can layer underneath them easily.

I've had this jacket since the summer of 2012 and wear it constantly. It is my go to shell. I have worn the jacket for wind protection, rainy down pours, and snow sports. It has performed well in all conditions. What I love it that the jacket is very lightweight and you just have to adjust your layers underneath based on your body. I do have a size Lg to accommodate layers for winter, the jacket is a bit large if I'm wearing it by itself. The only improvements I would make is color of trim. I have a coffee color and the trim is yellow. The jackets would look brand new but the trim picks up dirt and doesn't come clean. There are some times when I wish I had some pit zips, but I usually just adjust my layering, and the jacket does breathe very well. All in all, great for all occasions.

It's super lightweight and great for wind / rain protection. I have the Cassis Rose color and it's definitely chic!
