Woven with breathable and fast-drying Polartec® Thermal Pro® sweater knit, this Arc'teryx Covert Collar Zip combines a tailored appearance with functional fabric. While Polartec® Thermal Pro® sweater knit looks like wool, it's easier to launder and doesn't have the same permanent stretch properties. Unlike many Arc'teryx pullovers, the Covert Collar Zip doesn't have handwarmer pockets, but there is a small stash/radio pocket on the left sleeve. If you're looking for something functional without all the mundane stuff found on typical fleece outerwear, the Covert Collar Zip has it all together in a sharp looking package. If the missing pockets are a big deal but you like the innovative knit fabric, the Arc'teryx Covert Hoody has pockets in the typical places with a hood thrown in on top.

Wear the collar up as a mock-T or open it for a relaxed look. Either way, the soft Polartec® Thermal Pro® will keep you warm on a cold day.

Notes on color and sizing

| This is a very attractive and warm fleece sweater. While there are numerous pluses to this item, one annoyance I have with it, and many other clothing makers is the ambiguous names they give for colors. The Covert I bought was called Slate. Where I'm from, slate was mined and was very dark gray, almost black (remember blackboards?). Reproducing colors on the Internet is difficult due to different computer displays reproducing them differently. On mine, the sweater appeared to be dark gray. When it arrived, I was a bit disappointed to find it to be a kind of brownish-grayish color with a hint of olive. It's attractive, but very different from what I was expecting. Arc'Teryx should have called it something like a "dark taupe tweed" or something similar. Regarding sizing, I was pleased to find it very roomy. Not excessively so, but more than I'm accustomed to seeing with Arc'Teryx products, which tend to be quite form fitting. I usually wear size Large in most products and this item in size large was roomy enough to easily layer base layers. If we had an REI store in Kansas City (or any outdoor store for that matter) that had these in stock, I would have liked to try on a Medium to see if it would fit better. But I'm not displeased with it in size Large. For reference, I'm 5'11" and 180lbs and a 42-43 inch chest. I hope this helps. | |

| Warm and functional enough for cool to cold weather camping, stylish enough to make it past the business casual dress code at your office! I have the carob (read: brown) version and the only problem I have is trying to space out my wearing of it so my friends don't think I only own one top! Functionally the fleece is warm, though it is a mid layer at heart--you aren't stopping any wind with this fleece. The quarter zip neck height matches a turned down turtleneck perfectly. Open it is stylish and closed it snugs to you neck keeping you warm. Style wise having the fuzzy part of the fleece on the inside makes the outside look stitched like a sweater--thereby fooling your office manager into thinking it IS a sweater. Take that dress code! I normally wear close to an XL in mid to outer layers (I'm 6'1" 195) but found the slight bag to the XL didn't look as good. The large fit my torso perfect and while I'd MAYBE like another 1/2 inch of sleeve length that may just be a personal preference; the sleeves definitely were not too short. I was lucky enough to grab this on sale, though even full price I think it'd be worth it given its ability to look nice enough for work while still providing excellent warmth to weight for camping. | |

The best mid weight thermal layer I own!

| I am a gear junkie. The Covert Collar rocks! I had been looking for a 200 weight thermal layer for a while. The Covert Collar is the ultimate in both function and style. It is warm, soft and thanks to Arc'teryx tailoring, it fits perfectly. Worn with a capaline baselayer and a shell over, it makes for the perfect mountain thermal for all but the coldest/stormiest days. I really like the close but flexable fit. Worn in the city under a leather jacket, it looks like marino wool, but has a cool high tech style. Its super light, very packable and dries in no time. This will be my garment of choice for travel and for the mountains. Yet another uber gear win from the folks at Arc'teryx. | |

Arc-teryx Covert Collar Zip Carob

I love the look, the soft feel of it, and the pocket on the arm (great for a cell phone), and the snug fit. But if you wear it outside where there's even a bit of wind, you feel the wind go through it, and that kinda sucks. I mean, with similar fleece tops from other companies like Patagonia, that hasn't happened to me. With all the big talk I got about Arc'teryx being ahead of the competition on technology, how could they have made such a gaff? I got responses about it being a "layer," but that just sounds like bull&$%#, to be honest. If Patagonia can make a semi-wind proof fleece top for less money to the consumer than Arc'teryx, so can Arc'teryx.

After ordering and receiving an Arc'teryx Covert Collar for my brother for Xmas, I quickly put one on my list for Santa. He came through, and I wore it for the next three days in New England. It worked well for the 0 degree trip to the diner for breakfast, backyard sledding with the kids, and skating at the hockey rink. It is super soft, warm, layers well, and covers sweater duties. A new favorite in the closet - when I'm not already wearing it.

Fleece performance, sweater looks! GREAT

| I got this as a gift recently and LOVE it. I just got back from a ski trip to Utah and wore it skiing and around town, to dinner, etc. Its a great travel piece for that reason. Like an earlier reviewer said, I have to avoid wearing as much as I want to, so people don't start to look at me funny. Like all Arc'teryx gear, this is awesome looking, very well made, and expensive (but definitely worth it)! | |

Warmth without Bulk! | |

| Needed a mid layer to go under my Arc'teryx Sidewinder. The Covert collar zip is great. It allows me to put 0 to 2 thinner layers on under it without impeding movement. I needed a large and it fit perfect. Long enough to tuck into ski pant, not bulky in armpit, not tight at neck. Very nice construction. My wife even said that it was a great fleece shirt. You get what you pay for. I'm very happy! | |

Comfortable piece, relaxed fit. No wind blocking, but it's a sweater, not a wind-breaker. Looks good enough to wear at the office over shirt and tie. Has a lose elastic closer at the wrists, and waist (no problems with it turning up at the waist because of this). Very good in cold conditions, yet I don't seem to overheat in moderate conditions or indoors. Slate color is grey/brown, looks more brown than shown on this site.

Excellent look and fit!!!!

| You just can't go wrong with Arc'teryx!!!...the men's covert collar zip not only looks great, but the fit and feel under a shell makes it ideal for skiing during cold and windy days. Surprisingly enough, the increased thickness and warmth does not compomise the flexibility of the garment. My overall experience with Arc'teryx products has been superb!!!, the extra bucks you spend are definitely paid off in durability, exceptional looks, fit, and confort. Go for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | |

Excellent Fit and Quality

| Excellent fit in both the body and sleeves. Same quality I've come to expect from Arc'teryx. Probably can be used as a second layer under a parka in very cold weather but is warm enough by itself (with perhaps a turtleneck or other long sleeve first layer) for most other times. The covert weave is also a nice change from the usual fleece. Like it a lot. | |

Good Quality but too much mula.
| Rating: | ![]() |
Nice sweater type cover, but for $100+ its not worth it. It sheds a little water, but doesn't block the wind at all for the weave is looser than even most $40 sweaters, and the one little upper sleeve pocket is too small for just about everything.

Expected More from Arc'Teryx

| A decent fleece, however it does have it's flaws. A large fit my torso perfectly, though the sleeves were to short, however that was not a big deal, At 6'2" I'm used to it. It is a good looking jacket, and thats about it. It provided minimal warmth. But the big issue I had with this jacket was how quickly it pilled. I got it in the mail, went for a hike the next day, and returned it the next day. 6 hours of a moderate hiking in perfect weather had this thing looking like it was a year old. Like I said, Arc'teryx makes alot of extremely high quaility clothing and equiptment, this just isn't one of those. | |
