Quality gear, if a little pricey

| I have to admit that I was taken aback at first by a $350 hoody with a "Made In China" tag, as I was buying Arc'teryx by reputation only. An inspection revealed that the construction was acceptable. I've had the Hercules for a few weeks now and can say a few things about it. It is very warm for its weight. I was able to replace a military surplus parka that I'd been wearing. With proper base layer, the Hercules was easily able to endure a few 10F nights without missing a step. Again, very light and very warm. It sheds a decent amount of water and absolutely stops almost all wind. I sort of wish that the main zip was taped, but that is not a major complaint. All in all, if you catch it on sale (as I did), then I can recommend this soft shell as a solid buy. The fit is spot on and it will also draw some comments from its looks. | |

A Good Item | |

| A first-rate piece (like most Arc'teryx items), though it seems not quite as technical as most Arc'teryx pieces. Thanks to the high-loft fleece interior, it has kept me warm in single digit F temps in the Adirondacks at the start of a trip up a peak, and kept me warm again at the summit. Also kept me warm during Columbus Day snowstorm in the Adirondacks while camping in a lean-to. It feels less fitted than most Arc'teryx items, and more comfortable. The hood is also fleece lined, and it keeps my ears warm. Its exterior fabric feels like any other Polartec Powershield, but Arcteryx says it is Powershield O2, which it claims is more breathable. It does not have a wind flap, which is too bad, but I can't say it bothered me too much even in moderately windy conditions. | |

| I own six performance jackets. This is my favorite. I have worn it playing in the snow when it's 10 degrees out, in the rain in Arlington, and pretty much every other weather condition since I got it in November. It's warm enough to wear over a t-shirt in any temp over 35, and great with just a baselayer down to about 20 if you're working hard. The seams aren't taped so you will get wet if you stand in the rain for long enough, but the DWR does a pretty good job of keeping you dry in all but a sustained downpour. By design it is not windproof, just highly wind resistant, so it can get a little chilly when the wind is really rippin unless you have a few layers underneath. I just wish the zipp | |

"A Full Backcountry Season..."

| I went out to work in Idaho and brought two jackets. This was one. The other was a rain jacket that I used simply because 10 hour treks through the rain dont work in this jacket. Arc'teryx, as usual, got this one very very very right. When I put the hood on I think my ears had an orgasm with the liner. Anyone who has tried this on will surely understand what I am talking about. The Hercules is quite the investment, but that is exactly what needs to stay in your mind when you drop the change on this spectacular jacket (plus the reward points you get back pretty much seal some awesome gear for "free"). Think about it and do it. | |

"Great all-around jacket for active cold-weather use"
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I highly recommend this jacket if you enjoy active pursuits during cold, wet winter months. This jacket has wonderfully soft "furry" insulation throughout (even down the sleeves), adding to its all-around usability. Still, it won't keep you warm on a sub-zero degree (C) day, so plan for some layers. I'm a small guy (5'5"/57 Kg.) and a size Small fits almost perfectly, with a little extra room for some layers. I've been very impressed with the build quality and durability of this coat and expect it will last me a long time. Overall, I highly recommend this jacket. It is tough, well-fitting, warm, and stylish to boot. A bit on the expensive side, but worth every penny. | |

"Best Hoodie Most Versatile Jacket!!"

| The jacket fits perfectly first off, so if you wear a large normally, order a large. Second, the jacket is extremely light. I love to hike and when you can cut your load by half the weight you are taken to dreamland. Also recently where I live there have been 40mph gusts that the jacket just shakes right off, almost as if it were windproof (says its 98%). Also great for the wetter weather but still is not a rain jacket, thats why I have the Beta though. Overall this jacket is definitely something you should look into if you like to stay warm, dry, and fashionable. | |

"Amazing, warm softshell, the problem is now my wife wants one..."
| Rating: | ![]() |
| This is a very high quality softshell from Arc'teryx. It is a little bit looser fitting than the other softshell's from Arc'teryx I've worn, especially the Gamma line. But this seems to be consistent across the Decent line. The size should make this coat better for layering if you wear it as an outer layer for skiing or snowboarding, but at the same time the outer shell material is very smooth, making it easy to put a shell over when you need more protection. The fleece lining is so soft and warm, I fear for the safety of my jacket, and may have to lock it up. | |

"Feels and looks great!"

| So the only down side of this hoody is that the one I bought (black hooded version) is made in China. I would have really preferred to support a Canadian made product, especially at Arc'teryx's prices! Otherwise, this will be my primary jacket 90% of the time. Throw a shell over it, and it makes an awesome midlayer for the other 10% of the time. I'm 6'5" tall and an XL fits the arm length great, without being too bulky in the chest/waist with its athletic cut. The fleece feeling liner feels great, especially in the hood! Perfect! | |

"A Technical Shell that outperforms every expectation."
| Rating: | ![]() |
| When I bought this jacket, I was seriously considering similar soft-shell technical jackets like the Patagonia Winter Guide, but ended up ordering it on a long shot after hearing story after story about how well Arcteryx jackets were made. This thing keeps you warm in 30 degree weather with just a base layer underneath, and if it's above 40, you could literally wear just a t-shirt, and it's "water resistant," but I've been in Noah's Ark type weather, and aside from some damp spots on the outside after a 20 min. walk, I was absolutely dry inside. | |

Quality and fit excellent
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I was pleased to see the usual quality and attention to detail that I have come to expect. I purchased a medium and it fit perfect with room for a layer or 2 underneath (I'm 5'10 & 160lbs). I wore it to ski on a windy day at Killington Vt and it was warm and comfortable to wear. It blocks some but enough wind got through to make me re-think what I am going to wear as mid-layers next time out. | |
