Whether you're just getting into backcountry riding, are a seasoned vet, or a crusty avalanche professional, perhaps the most important bit of knowledge you can take with you into the mountains is "I know nothing." No matter your experience, level of knowledge, or confidence in the conditions, accidents happen, and it's your responsibility as a backcountry user to be prepared. Part of that preparedness is having the right gear and knowing how to use it. To help you out, Arva's put together a package with their Evolution 3+ Beacon, Snow Eco Shovel, and Light 240 Probe, giving you the three avalanche essentials to help keep you safe if the unexpected happens.
The simplest and lightest beacon in Arva's line, the Evolution 3+ has a simple one-button interface, three digital antennas with a range of 40m, and the ability to recognize up to three burials and indicate if there are more. Complemented by a signal-marking function, this allows for quick and precise searches in multiple-burial scenarios. It also has an innovative Clip Safe system, which turns the beacon on as soon as you attach it to the carrying harness, eliminating the chance that you forget to turn it on. Arva also included their light Snow Eco shovel, which is made of tough aluminum and weighs in at under a pound, making it lighter than all but their ultralight randonee-racing shovels. The blade's also made of sturdy aluminum, and slips out of the sleeve to make carrying a breeze. To assist in the search, you also get a Light 240 aluminum probe, which weighs close to nothing and gives you 240cm of reach with a tension-locking assembly and Kevlar cord. Read up, if you'd like.
