Failed to meet expectations

This applies to Gen 1 ATN Night Storm Nightvision Monocular I bought this unit from Cabelas and have returned it because it did not even begin to meet the product description provided by ATN. The unit has an infared light, but it is ALWAYS on when the unit is on and cannot be switched off. The product is claimed to be effective to 100 meters but the unit I received was totally blurry beyond 30-50 feet or so. Worst of all was the fact that the infared did not light up the untire field of view beyond aboubt 20 feet and then was not centered in the middle of view. Additionally, at more than 20 feet or so, the only portion of the view field that was even barely in focus was the very center, everything outside the center was distorted. I have a ATN Aries Crusader 7900 (Gen 3) that I also bought from Cabelas, it has exceeded my expectations. I may try another monocular by ATN, probably I will have to spend more on a better unit, but this one was a complete disappointment. You would be better off using a candle to see in the dark.

Good at 35 yards

The Night Storm Gen 1 worked very well out to 25 yards and reached its limits at 35 yards on a star lit night. At 45 yards the images where just green unidentifiable shapes. It did not meet my 75 yard expectations.
