Outfitted with the latest and greatest trickle-down from the Elixir 9s, the Avid Elxir 7 Disc Brake will confidently handle all your stopping duties. Next-gen TaperBore technology provides solid, consistent lever feel and modulation, and saves weight over traditional reservoir systems.
Initially I had issues with the metallic brake pads. When I switched to the organic pads the whole feel changed. They modulate nicely and have good power. I don't care for the placement of the reach adjuster. It is useless and in the way. You don't see it on many of Avid's other brakes. I think they realized that the reach adjuster placement was a poor design. Other than that, Avid made a pretty good brake. I haven't ridden Shimano XT or XTR so I can't compare them to those.
