does the job

I use this hoist to lift and store my kayak in the garage. I can drive my vehicle under the kayak, and lower it onto the carrier. I have used one of these for over 10 years now, and have just ordered a second one, for my second kayak. The hoists can mount to a 2x6 or can mount flush to the ceiling (if there is a stud to screw into). It took me a couple of trys to learn how to lift my kayak. You would think it would be easy - just pull the ropes and the kayak would lift up. But you actually have to pull one rope at a time, working the kayak like a see-saw, as it gets higher. Lowering is similar. Pull one rope down to release the catch, and slowly let out the other rope (kind of like venetian blinds). Then pull down on the second rope and slowly let out the first rope. The ropes have come off the pulleys before if you pull them from the side. You need to make sure that you pull in a straight line to keep the ropes in the pulleys.I've used these for years, and will continue to use them.

this is my second one

This unit keeps your kayak off the ground and provides space for more gear.
