Excellent, when made in the bag!

My first attempt at this didn't go so well, since I was traveling alone and hoped to get two desserts out of this-- making it in a bowl (even covering it, as instructed) just didn't work so well, it ended up simultaneously lumpy and runny, despite thorough stirring. Attempt #2 however, which I made in the bag, turned out fantastic. Something about the pouch makes it work so much better. I will definitely get this again, and make it all in the bag at once-- and maybe eat it all at once!

The Best Camping Dessert EVER

This is HANDS DOWN the single best camping dessert I have EVER HAD!!! I cannot recommend it highly enough. We had also packed some camping Brownies (which were awful) and the plain ole cheesecake and in the end, we both agreed that we wished we had just packed more of this. So creamy and sweet and delicious. You will be trying to lick the bag clean! As for the con that it isn't health: C'mon, it's CHEESECAKE! You know that it isn't healthy! Backpacker's Pantry, Please don't ever discontinue this one!!!

FANTASTIC!

Best packing dessert I've ever had. By far.
Shocked with reviews saying it lacks flavor. I licked the package clean! I mean, of course it isn't chessecake per se - more like mousse - but who would expect cheesecake? I am not easy to please dessert-wise and I thought it was awesome.
Guess it just goes to show we all need to take these reviews with a grain or two of salt, as some people will never be pleased - at least until they've written a poor review...

Pretty darned good

This was super easy to make and tasted very good. It was very creamy and light, tasted just like chocolate cheesecake. The only thing that bothered me was that the packaging said to sprinkle the chocolate graham cracker crust over the top. There wasn't any graham cracker crust provided It seems that this wasn't included with the package. Regardless, I would highly recommend this dessert. It was very tasty.

Good Stuff

My son wanted to try some 'backpacking' food in preperation of his first trip, so we bought this and brought it home just to try. It wasn't bad at all. I wouldn't definitely take it along backpacking as a desert and it's enough to share.
I thought there was plenty of flavor and would satisfy my sweet tooth on a trip.

Still The Best!

I couldn't wait to review this and then noticed that I already did once. Just had it again this weekend and it is still the best camping food dessert I've ever had. I'm so shocked people find this unflavorful. I love it! Thick, creamy, sweet. Can't wait to go camping again so I can have more!

yummy dessert

this was one of the best desserts that my dad and i took on our recent trip. i loved it, exept that after a while near the end of it , that it started tasting kind of sickning sweet.

Love Chocolate? Then, you'll love this!

This is one of my family's favorite desserts. It takes a little time to prepare, but well worth it. We use two packages for three people. The texture is velvety and the topping is really good. Enjoy!

Perfect!

This cheesecake is amazing! It tasted as good as almost any dessert I have ever had.

I would do the pepsi challange with a dessert at any fine steakhouse!!!

A must have after dinner.

Excellent taste and easy to prepare.

Used on a short and long backpacking trip. Nice treat to have that is easy to fix. The calories help on the tougher days. It's rich so you don't need a lot.

Negative Reviews:

Awful!

After reading the great reviews on this, I bought a pack and took it on a recent motorcycle camping trip. I couldn't wait to try it. I can't tell you how disappointed I was. It was easy to make, but the taste was terrible. It didn't taste anything like cheesecake, and the chocolate taste was off. I threw it away, and my sweet tooth went unsatisfied, because I didn't have any other sweets with me.
jckid at REI on 03/03/2010

Horrid

This product was an utter disappointment.

I was expecting a freeze-dried powdered cheesecake, which would have been fine on it's own, but they obviously thought it needed more consistency and added some type of chemical thickener.

It tasted mostly of whatever the thickening agent was, and not even like chocolate.

The cookie crumble packet, advertised as a topping, is just 3/4 of an oreo that has been crushed.
Norse27 at REI on 12/12/2010

Tastes like pudding

This was not horrible, but did not resemble cheese cake at all.

Pretty good

It's good--it's not bad--but I'd probably rather have a chocolate bar.
