Excellent Taste & Convenient Preparation

My annual backpacking trip is usually 7 or 8 days and generally requires a bear vault. This granola is easy to prepare in that you can have it cold with no rehydration time or as a better treat warm as crunchy oatmeal. I take the contents out of the packaged bag and put it in a Ziploc quart bag to save space in the vault. Don't eat the Silica Gel absorbsion pack! I generally get 3 of these meals for each trip and eat them as breakfast before particularly challenging segments of the trail when we have to wake up and get out early. I have finally come to the conclusion that dehydrated egg breakfasts (even burritos or fajitas)still have a long way to go to be tasty and no longer take them on the trip. The bananas and milk granola meal is super filling for 1 (since it is designed to serve 2) and a pleasure to eat.

Best quick & easy breakfast

Meals don't get easier than this. As long as your heart is not set on a hot meal, this is the way to go in the morning...simply add water and eat. I liked the granola with blueberries so much, I had to try the bananas and was not disappointed. It tastes very much like a good granola at home with fresh bananas.

This can also work well as a snack. We often will eat this on a day where we are hiking an extended number of miles and don't have time to stop or the day is long (similar to a hiking day of 7 AM - 7 PM). There is more sustenance than a power bar and doesn't take any longer to prepare.

Great breakfast food - filling

Add two cups of water, stir, wait a mintue or two and dig in. I happend to bring this on a recent walk across the MD piece of the AT trail and tried it. I thought it was a great breakfast food. The portion was huge so next time Im going to split it in half. Im not a breakfast person but this gave me great energy with a decent mix of protien, carbs, fiber, etc.

Yum

My favorite breakfast on the trail. It truly is 2 servings and I can eat a lot. I used boiling water instead of cold, I think it always turns out better. It was hard to believe, the first time trying it, that it was a freeze dried meal. Very filling and gave me a good boost in the morning to get back on the trail. Highly recommended!

Our favorite granola

Over a 2 week backpacking trip, we had granola from the big 4 in dehydrated food - Mountain House, Natural High, and Backpacker pantry. While we are partial to bananas, this was our favorite granola because of its crunchy texture and good banana flavor. We ate it with boiling water rather than cold water.

Much better then the Blueberry

This was one of the favs. in our yurt. I had brought the blueberry as well. That one is a 3.5 stars. The bannana/milk and granola was great. It is truly 2 servings. I could eat this at home. The flavour was great.

Negative Reviews:

What bananas?

If you like sugar breakfast cereals then you might like this one. Bananas are hard to find in it. You can do a lot better making your own breakfast cereal and take it along in a zip-lock bag.

Neutral Reviews:

OK, but not great

This is tasty. The granola is OK, but could be better. The included bananas are finely chopped and about half are flavorful dust; in any case, the bananas quickly dissolve and become indistinguishable from the rest by the time that the suggested preparation time is reached. Except for the bananas, you probably can do better for yourself by bringing your favorite granola and supermarket dry milk.
