Baffin Control Max Reviews:

Positive Reviews:

Very nice boot; not as large as the Shackleton of the same size but my feet were just as warm;I thought I had on wool socks but I just had regular cotton socks! (Shackletons have a larger footprint& compared next to each other the Shackletons looked huge). The fit is good (I wear an 11 Nike and a 9 New Balance); I went with a 10. I like these tie laces way better than the Shackletons with the lace lock; but miss the snow collar. These Control Max really cinch-up well to hold my heel in place. Better than any other boot I tried (i.e. the Kamik Oslo). They look great too! The stitching looked good, no problems with loose or missed stitches! I do like the worn brown better than the black. Also the description I saw on Zappos says 7-layer inner boot system but the tag, from Baffin, on the boots say 8-layer. I know that these are made in China but they are made well as far as I can see. I guess if you need to make them water resistant you could use a waterproof spray on the seam and leather or mink oil on the leather! Good boot for the price! I tried 3 different boots before I made my choice!

Forgot to mention... only down side is that the cuff is so large, guessing most people will find what I did: that you'll be unable to fit straight-leg jeans over the boot. Boot cuts should work fine. That said, likely that if it's cold enough for you to wear this boot, you're likely going to be wearing something other than jeans to keep your legs warm... probably a pant with some kind of gaitor, in which case this consideration won't matter.

Once I put them on, I didn't want to ever take them off. Like a cushy, warm, supportive, slipper. The cuff design is very similar to a ski boot. Incredibly comfortable. Compared to Evolution model, Control Max has slightly higher cuff; I found it to be more comfortable. Also, Evolution model is harder to tie closed; loops are much smaller and tighter. Big loops on Control Max make getting in/out easier. Fantastic piece of gear.

These are like a somewhat warmer version of the caribou boots. They're definitely comfortable, and seem to have a pretty high warmth/bulkiness ratio. I took them on a trip to Greenland and was pretty pleased; my feet only got cold during prolonged standing around at ~ -20 F. The insulation on the bottom between the foot and sole is easily compressed, so I recommend getting thick insoles to boost the warmth a bit.

I purchased four pair of these for me and my crew this winter for doing snow and ice removal from roofs in every condition and well below freezing to rain one day and we all love these boots because there not only warm and dry but the rubber sole does very well on steep roofs. Best winter boot ever. Charlie in Minneapolis.

I bought these boots for my husband and he loves them. We snow machine a lot and they are warm and comfortable. I was also impressed with Zappos shipping, I got them the exact day they said I would.

My husband loves these boots - says that his feet have never been warmer. It was GREAT to receive the boots so quickly! Would highly recommend these boots.

boots are very comfortable and warm and the lugs on the bottom and excellent in preventing slipping.

Negative Reviews:

I ordered the Baffin Control Max. When the box was delivered promptly, as always from Zappos, these boots were literally falling apart out of the box. Several spots on one of the boot tongues where the seam stitching was missed and wasn't even attached to the boot. What? How could you miss that? No quality control? The gap was big enough that I noticed it looked suspicious before the boot was even out of the box. I am sending these back and going back to Sorels.
