Berkley Havoc Devil Spear Reviews:

New Favorite Thick Cover Lure

I picked up a red shad colored devil spear and they are my new favorite lure for fishing thick cover, especially lily pads and fallen trees/timber. The stream lined design really works like its supposed to and I've had 0 hang ups. More importantly the bass love it to! Its design allows it to mimic many creatures in the water, but mostly tadpoles and baitfish. The action of the bait underwater during retrival is just like how a beaver swims. It is heavy enough that I can rig it weightless and still be able to cast it on my baitcaster, but sinks very slowly (just shy of being boyant) and I found that with a quick tug of the rod it comes up to the surface. I also like how versital it is. I can hop it like a worm, burn it on the surface, drag it over lily pads and into thick cover, or rig a weight on it and use it like a swimbait or a jerk bait or use it to punch into really thick sloppy cover. The bait also has great hook-ups when fish strike, and I've neverhad an issue where a strike occured and the hook stayed stuck in the bait and failed to hook the fish. The only thing don't like is that the junction of the tail and body is a weak point. It is almost always torn off by fish and I have even casted a few off. But other than that it works great. A must have.

great bait! flip it, swim it, use it as a trailer, ect... It is bigger and heavier than it appears. Awesome flipping into heavy cover because it gets in and out easy but still has great tail action.
