Berkley Powerbait Hollow Belly Swim Bait Reviews:

Excellant Product

Just got back from Canada and used the Berkley Power Swim Bait at the suggestion of my friend. Instead of using the light weight sinker/hook that comes with the bait, I used a 3/4 oz salt water jig head so the bait would swim deeper. A one ounce head would be a good choice also.
The action on the bait was amazing, and the Pike and Musky loved it. Catching Pike on the swim bait was no problem, and it seemed to be the most reliable lure thrown while fishing. With the 6" bluegill swim bait, I caught a 43" Musky and numerous Pike. I did have to used super glue on the tip of the bait to keep it from sliding down the hook, but it was no big deal to fix the lure in the evening when it started sliding. If the bait gets torn up by the fishes teeth, they make a rubber glue compound to give it new life. Originally I never would have thought to use such a bait on Pike or Musky because I thought it would only last one time, but these lures proved to be champions. The ones that worked best for us, were the bluegill and purple tiger. My friend used them too, and took a black marker to draw lines going from top to bottom all the way from the gill area to the tail on each side of the purple tiger lure and swore by it.
It is worth a try.

Great Pike and Muskie Lure

I purchased the purple tiger and firetiger 5" swimbaits for a try this last spring for Northern Pike and Muskie while fishing up north on our annual trip. The purple tiger was a huge hit. My brother in law and I caught more fish with this than any other bait this spring. If hooked weedless you can drag it through very thick cover and over logs triggering bites from these ambush predators. They do get torn up, but catching fish was the objective so I didnt care. They will become a regular lure in my tacklebox. I also caught a 19 1/2 in Largemouth Bass while fishing a local sandpit with them.

Too much for so llittle

Let me start off by saying that I'm a big fan of Gulp and Powerbait products, and these Hollow Bellies are an effective bait with good swimming action and a lot of vibration. However, there are a lot of other good swim baits out there for a fraction of the price. Berkley needs to step up to the plate and offer this bait at a more reasonable price. Until they do, save your money and buy something else.
