Big Agnes Jack Rabbit SL1 Tent Review:

Great one-person tent!

I backpack quite a bit in the Pacific Northwest. Have had this tent out on two treks in the past couple of weeks. Great weather on the first trek, but rain and wind on the second. Plus, wound up camping on top of three feet of snow on the second trek.
The tent is great. Plenty of internal space. Really like the three mesh pockets for stowing small items I don't want to lose track of. Vestibules aren't huge, but plenty of room for boots and other small objects I don't want in the tent. Not sure how useful the vestibule on the side opposite the door will be. Adequate headroom, but I am only 5'8". A few other tents have maybe one more inch of headroom so the Jack Rabbit is as about good as the rest. Zippers work really well. Getting in and out of the door is a breeze. Adequate ventilation - no issues with condensation. No water got in the tent - even in heavy rains and wind. Snow was not an issue. Fly worked great - lots of separation between tent and fly. Vent in fly works great. Truly three season - cool in heat yet still warm enough in cool weather (compare sidewalls of other tents - mesh vs. nylon). REALLY like that this is a truly freestanding tent. Many one person tents have one pole going to the foot - and you have to stake out the two corners at the foot. Not on the Jack Rabbit. This was a huge plus for me. Easy set up - very intuitive.
I know this tent is a little heavier than some of the other one person tents. Seems like the poles are made out of a little heavier material. Not sure where else the extra weight might come from. But, this is still a very light and compact tent.
I checked out several other one person tents and chose this one because it is relatively spacious, truly freestanding, more than light enough, compact, and economical (I got it on sale).
I am pretty picky about my gear. And, I am really happy with the Jack Rabbit. If you are looking for a one person tent, definitely check out this tent.
