A really great tent for auto camping

Just bought this tent to use for the coming Winter months as with longer nights I needed a more spacious tent... my usual tent is a REI passage 2. I have only used this tent for 4 days in Northern California.. but must comment on the ease of set up, lots of room and outstanding quality. I'm 72 years old and had no difficulty setting this tent, can't understand some remarks as to the poles remaning bent!! I had no problems at all. I use this great tent motorcycle turing the Pacific states, WAshington, Oregon and California, with a mid Winter trip to Mexico.

Fun 3 season tent for a family

Great family tent- true 3 season structure-easy setup- stable in the wind

Don't expect to pack / hike this tent into remote areas- it's heavy. Best reserved for car camping

Great 4 person tent!

Great tent... set up was easy and intuitive. Roomy and comfortable. Fly got jammed a couple of times, but all-in-all a great value.

Negative Reviews:

disappointed, it needs improvements

We bought this tent for a 5 day river trip, It replaced a old REI dome tent which had been used for years. It finally came several days before the trip, upon the "practice setup" in the yard, the poles bent. We had to take it anyway, could not get them replaced in time. It did keep us dry, it rained hard on the trip, the tent itself was waterproof. The problem with the fly is when you open the door the water drains onto the the tent floor.

The size of the tent is great, plenty of room for two of us and gear on a extended trip. For the size of the tent it is light and easy to pack. The tent is also easy to setup with the bent poles, I am looking forward to getting some straight poles and try it again.

They really need to fix the fly problem, the idea of a vestibule tent is to avoid getting water into the tent.

Neutral Reviews:

Lots of great stuff, but...

With a couple of young boys (currently 6 & 3), our family is upgrading size in order to accommodate everybody. This tent seemed to fit the bill. It's a great size for car camping or a backcountry canoe trip (a la Boundary Waters or Algonquin Provincial Park in Ontario). Not ideal for backpacking, but a manageable enough size to pack if you split it up between two people.

The thing that impressed me the least about this tent was setting it up. The sleeves hinder the ease of setup and the friction between sleeves and pole restricts movement and greatly increases chances for asymmetry in the final pitch. I would not want to set this tent up in any kind of wind, let alone some serious weather.

The poles were slightly bent after the first set up, which makes me think something worse will happen down the road. I'm not sure if REI would cover this kind of thing anymore after a year (their new and strict return policy)

Once it's set up, it is gigantic. Less cabin fever if weather would keep you in. Plenty of head room (I can almost stand up in the center and I'm 6'). Lots of mesh pockets for storage, both on the walls and ceiling.
