Birkenstock Gizeh Birko-Flor Reviews:

Positive Reviews:

These shoes are by far the best sandals you can get for your feet! I have worn Birkenstocks since high school, so 15 years now, and I worked for a Birkenstock store for a year. Often, customers would come in requesting that I fit them in their first pair of Birkenstocks, at the order of their podiatrist. These are orthopedic so they support your feet in the proper way and these are the shoes that most every podiatrist agrees people should wear. For those of you getting a pair of Birkenstocks for the first time, there are a few things to be aware of. Sizing is little different since you are in a European size. I am a solid 8 in US sizing, but when I wear the Arizona style Birkenstock I have to get a size 38 (European 7) and when wearing the Gizeh with the toe piece I size up one size in order for it to fit properly, so I wear a 39 in the Gizeh. Also, it does take time to adjust to the toe piece but it should not be painful as some reviews have mentioned. If you are in the correct size, this should not bother you that much, especially if you are used to flip-flops. Another thing to note is that there are three different footbeds to choose from. Papillio Sandals have the smallest amount of arch support, Birkenstocks have medium arch support and Tatamis have the highest arch support, so one footbed might work better for you than another. I can wear the Papillio and the Birkenstock, where as Tatami is slightly too high for me, but people with an extremely high arch love Tatamis. After some time the footbed actually forms and molds to your foot. This is a very cool process because it goes from a completely flat shoe that anyone can wear to one that over time only you can wear because it takes on the shape of your individual foot and another person would not be comfortable in it. And lastly, in order to keep the cork shiny, looking new and protected, you can get cork life from the Birkenstock website. You would use this every few months depending on how often you wear your sandals. Just as any Birkenstocks last forever! But, if you ever need your sandals repaired, a Birkenstock store in your area may have trained staff who can replace any part of the sandal, including the footbed, toepiece, sole, and leather lining. So I do hope this helps any of you new to Birkenstock on sizing and keeping your Birkenstocks nice and new looking for years to come! The one and only complaint I have for the Gizeh is that I wish it could be worn in winter, but unfortunately, in Indiana that just is not possible!

I bought these cute Girzeh Sandal's because I saw a friend wearing them and thought they were the cutest shoes I ever saw! I bought the light pink color because they were on sale. I had read the reviews but thought I would give them a chance.
Like all Birkenstock shoes they take a while for your foot to get use to them, with the toe thing that gave an additional cause for pain (or discomfort). The first couple days I wore them I made sure I packed an additional pair of shoes, after getting past the initial pain (about 15 min) I found each day I could keep them on longer. I walk about 2 1/2miles to work each day. When putting them on in the morning they still hurt but only for about a minute. Now I can wear them all day with no discomfort after the first minute or so. I do recommend these shoes, but you must get through that first week or so.

I never knew I could love Birkenstocks this much! I think these are much more stylish than the shoes I used to associate with this brand. I've gotten a ton of compliments on them. They are my first pair and they are so comfortable! For me, it took about 3 days to get used to the strap between the toes. Just a little mild discomfort but now they feel great. I also like how the strap goes so far back to the ankle - making them much more comfortable than your typical pair of flip flops. And the buckle makes them more adjustable for my narrow feet.

I will be completely honest: I love these shoes. My feet are a little wide and these fit my feet perfectly. Not only do I love the style, I've been receiving compliments on the style of my Birkenstock's too so I know I've made a wise purchase. I'm an avid Birkenstock user for all of my day to day activities (work, walking around the shops, hiking on the trail) and my last pair lasted over 6 years. So far I've done some intermediate trail hiking and these shoes did fantastically...and still look great. I recommend for all loyal and new Birkenstock customers.

This is my second pair of Gizehs -- my first was bought in 2001 and I wore them out! I have wide feet and short toes, normally wear a 7-1/2 or 8 but they ran almost an inch long in the heel so ordered one size smaller and they were a perfect fit. If you're not used to wearing thongs it will take a few days to get used to. After that, they're perfect. Feel great, the adjustible snug fit keeps them from making that flop sound and they stay on even when doing a high kick!

I got these from Backcountry, using the $20 coupon they sent, too. They cost like $35 total - thanks Backcountry!! Anyway, when I first got them they were the most uncomfortable shoes I've ever worn. I thought, "no way!" But after reading online reviews, I pushed through...and I'm so glad I did. The toe thing felt HORRIBLE. Now it's not bad at all, and the foot bed feels great. I'd say it took about a week for them to feel good. And they look so cute!! I'm happy, especially with the amazing deal! :)

I tried these on in another store intending to purchase through backcountry. I have very wide feet and they were practically spilling over the sides of these. Super bummed because I wanted to make them my summer shoe this year. Also I ran an entire size smaller in length than my regular size.

This is the first Birkenstocks I have bought. I need good cushion and arch support and these shoes have been nice. Plus these are actually petty dressy, so I can wear to church. I was initially only planning to make them my indoor shoes.

love love love these they're super rich in their color, i got the brown- i wear size 9 for my shoes & originally ordered the size 40 & had to exchange for the 39- the 39s fit like most size 9 shoes

Sarah at Backcountry.com on 03/18/2011

... But I don't. The fit is fabulous, the quality is unbeatable but the color is too metallic for me. I sized up a half size and they fit perfectly, they are also just slightly narrow.

Why the plastic thong? I like the birkenstock footbed, but found the hard plastic "thong" uncomfortable. Mephisto uses leather, not hard plastic, I can't understand why the birks folks don't do the same.
