Comfortable, good quality, fit perfectly

Rating:****
I love these! I followed the advice of others who suggested to buy a size down. I normally wear a 7 1/2 regular, so I ordered the 6 1/2-7 in a narrow. It is a perfect fit! (In my rating I put that they feel 1/2 size too big and too wide so that those of you who are ordering them will know to size down like I did.) These do require some breaking in, but it is not painful. That is how Birkies work, and why they are so comfortable because they conform to the individual foot. Your Birkies after breaking in will only be super comfortable to you and no one else. The strap closest to the toes is a little bit short so I have to buckle it in the last notch, which is perfect for me anyway because I don't like the strap ends sticking out and curling up on my strapped shoes. I have a high instep, so that my be the reason and may not be an issue for others with a lower instep. The blue-gray color is nice, and goes perfectly with jeans. The sparta design is very cute. I have worn these for an entire day right out of the box and did not have any blisters or rubbing. The strap I could "feel" a little, but I know it will be fine after a few more wears. Great sandle and very cute!

:) I've wanted some of the thong Birks for a long time but just never got around to getting them. Then I saw these, and I like the double strap even better. I got the white marbleized ones and they are very nice. I have other Birks and I got the same size but these seem to come narrower and a tad bit longer, though not a full half size longer. I hope that when the shoe is worn in a bit it will loosen the feel of the narrowness. The toe thingy does not bother me at all. Maybe it's the way my foot sits in the shoe. I mean, I feel it but I just wore them for the first time today and I was more aware of how much less room there is on the sides of my feet than of the to thong. Overall these shoes are stellar!!

Be sure of width - I just ordered a pair of the Sparta Birkenstock sandals in my regular size of 38R. Birkenstocks come in narrow and regular. The regular is wide and a Birkenstock narrow is more like an American regular. My point is that even though it was listed as a Regular what I actually received was a narrow. The way you can tell is this: Look on the footbed at the heel. There is a little imprint of a shoe. If the imprint is filled in it is a narrow. If it is a regular it is just an outline of a shoe. I know all this because Birkenstocks are all I wear. I have 2 pair of Spartas and the ones I just received are marked and sold as Regular but they are really narrow. I know it’s not intentional but it is worth letting you know about.

great!

I love these sandals! Most of the time, Birks are too clunky for me, but these seem to be the most delicate looking (not delicate feeling - they're really sturdy!) of all the Birks I have tried on. The blue-gray leather is really pretty - it's really just a cool-toned gray. A note on size: I usually wear a 9 regular width in US women's shoes, but I tried on both the 39N and 40N in this shoe, and went with the 39N. The 40N was a little long, but would have been ok to wear, except for the fact that the raised toe ridge was in the wrong place, which was annoying. The 39N is an exact fit, my toes are just about at the edge of the shoe - but it's much more comfortable because the toe ridge and arch are in the right spot.

love them!

i had been looking into buying birkesnstocks because i have been having foot pains from being on my feet all day in various sorts of uncomfortable footwear. these are exactly what i hoped for. struggled a bit in the first week breaking them in. that was really the only con. i got a couple blisters. but now they are wonderful. they are VERY cute and comfortable. and the price was right! i tried on a pair of birkenstocks at a store for size to make sure i got the right size. i wear them walking the dog, running errands, going out, they're just perfect! next on my list is a pair birkenstock clogs.

Converted Birk Virgin - First off, I want to commend the AMAZING service. Last time I ordered Birks online, I found that the Zappos sizing description was inaccurate. If you're a 6 regular, order a 36, not a 37. The little toe-grip ridge is irritating and falls at the bottom of my big toe pad, so it hurts slightly when walking in them. That extra leather tab sticking up at the insole digs in a little when I take steps. I'll assume that these details are part of the breaking-in process. They look excellent, but the toe ridge is the only thing that truly irks me. Otherwise, I fully recommend Spartas to anyone.

Perfect Walking Shoe

Rating:*****
I have 12 pairs of Birkenstocks, all size 36 regular (a 6 1/2 regular size). The footbed in this shoe is slightly more narrow than the other Birkenstocks. It is not a problem for my average foot however. The arch is aggressive and controls pronation of my feet. ALL Birkenstocks start off rather stiff. Wear these shoes about 30 minutes and let the cork warm up. Then do a few squats and allow your feet to fully bend. Your shoes will then be "bent and softened" at the correct area and will feel softer to you as you walk. Over time, they will further break in and get even more comfortable.

happy with my birkenstock sparta!

Rating:*****
love my new birkenstock sparta! look great and are really comfortable. might need very little break-in , but it really depends (i need break-in for every pair of shoes:) i ordered 37 (my size), but had to exchange them for size 36. These sandals run bigger. if your feet are a bit wider (like mine), go with the "R" (regular), "N" was too narrow for me. [...]p.s. all my friends love the shoes and they are all ordering pair too - hurry up girls, they go fast!:) ...oh did i mention the amazing price? i don't think you can find these shoes for better price!

Cute, albeit less comfortable Birkenstock - This is a really nice looking Birkenstock. The footbed is the traditional Birk with the same great comfort and support. The two straps customize the fit nicely. I have two complaints: The rubber toe separator is uncomfortable long term because it does not stretch and mold to your toes as leather does. Consequently, after a lot of walking, I find it make the top of the shoe too tight. Also, the strap that runs up the middle comes up so high on my foot that it rub the front of my leg.

An elegant, flattering, and comfortable summer sandal.. I've been hemming and hawing over this style for three years. Big mistake. This year I was choosing between Sparta and Ibiza. Ibiza is cute but makes my foot look wide and flat--not very flattering. So I bought this in pearl white and cannot wait to wear them. Considering them in the shocking pink or antique blue. Wish I could find a pair in black but such is life--I think Birkenstock may be phasing this style out and replacing with Gizeh:(

Hard as a rock

Rating:**
The style is so cute and the color goes w/everything!!! Someone told me that it takes a LONG-G-G-G time to break 'em in. Do they get softer? I made the mistake of wearing them all day, the first day I wore them--TOTAL MISTAKE--did my feet take a beating. Someone advised 1/2 days for at least a month. I hate to return them cause they're so cute, got them at such a good price, and I need good arch support!!! However, cushiness is important as well. I know other people just luv them!! I hope I will too in time.

Too stiff

Rating:**
The toe flap extended over my toes more than I thought it would, and it was easy to see where I'd get blisters while breaking these in from that. Also, the narrow says that it fits width B, which is an avg. width in the US, but it was too narrow for me.

Too stiff for me.

Rating:**
I ended up returning mine in exchange for the Ibiza style, which I have had before. I have never been able to wear thong type sandals (with the toe thing), but I thought I would try. They look nice, and I would recommend them only to someone who wears this style regularly.

Way too Narrow

Rating:*
These came unbuckled because the last person to try them on sent them back for the same reason I did. They were so narrow, they would not buckle. I wear a 71/2 and alsway get my birks in the narrow width. These are extremely narrow, so would recommend regular width.

Disappointed with comfort - I love Birkenstocks but the plastic that goes between the toes is very hard and hurts. I have not been able to wear the sandals more than a half hour at a time.

This birk runs narrow. The first strap would not close. I wear a 71/2. I have two other pairs of birks and I always get the narrow size, but these run too narrow.

Must have very very narrow feet

These are very cute but super narrow. I have several pairs of Birks that are narrow and none fit like these. I sent them back.
