The Black Diamond Stance Belay Jacket's features are geared towards excelling on a climbing trip. It has all the functionality you'll need to stay warm and comfortable while on belay or while on the way to belay. The nylon shell is DWR (durable water repellent) treated to protect the PrimaLoft insulation (which will still keep you warm when wet) and the waist hem is cut to accommodate a harness. It is compressible enough to easily stow when not needed or to bring to the next pitch of a multi-pitch climb. Luckily, for you non-climbers, the Stance Belay also functions in non-belay situations.... like when aggressively standing and looking up, maybe leaning a little. And for tons of other cold weather activities! Test this jacket's limits, you might not even find them.
Black Diamond designed its Men's Stance Belay Insulated Jacket for minimalist climbers who hate every additional ounce that weighs them down. With lightweight 80g PrimaLoft One insulation warming your body and 60g under your arms and in the side panels, you get warmth without the weight while you scale up those alpine walls. A Pertex shell wraps ups this wonderful warmth with surprising durability despite its lightweight appeal, and Black Diamond coated it with DWR to resist water on icy faces. When it's your turn to climb, compress this beauty in your backpack and start sending.
The Stance features stretch gusset cuffs that softly seal out those blustery blizzards, and they don't restrict any mobility you need to belay your buddy carefully. A drawcord at the hem retains the jacket's insulated warmth. Black Diamond gave a generous amount of space in the chest pocket for your headlamp, lip balm, and gloves. And the media pocket lets you play some tunes while you and your partner eat some food before the final push.
Sometimes, a hood just gets in the way. If you want the warmth, comfort, and packability of Black Diamond's Stance Collection without the encumbrance of a hood, the Stance Belay Jacket is for you. Just like its hooded siblings, it features a 30-denier Pertex nylon shell and 80-gram PrimaLoft One insulation (the warmest synthetic insulation available) to keep you warm and comfortable during rest breaks or while belaying.

I got this jacket right as a snowstorm came to the Eugene or. temperatures reached record lows, below 0 ferinheight, i used the jacket as an insulating layer, it it worked amazingly. i was crazy warm, and the pockets warm hands or gloves quickly. i also recently wen out to smith rock in bend or, and it was very useful especially in the shade, in the sun the temp was about 45 and out of it was in the 30's if not colder. got sweaty a couple of times, but on a multi-pitch that was mostly in the shade, the jacket rocked. it blocks wind very effectively, and even though the chest pocket is not high up, it is at a perfect accessible part of the jacket, and i now keep my phone in the media pocket all the time, its really great.
the black diamond logo on the back is peeling off, and this is lame especially since i hadn't even washed it at that point. the material dries quickly and fits nicely under a rain jacket. the collar is a bit large, and i found that this is where the heat escaped the most.
Just purchased recently to use under my gortex shells and this thing is amazing! Super warm all on its own. Fits true to size and simple features. Definitely worth the buy.
I ended up going with the hooded version of this jacket, but even without the hood this jacket is awesome!
wish the jacket was what they advertised, not primaloft one!!
