A jacket that keeps you comfortably warm while you belay in either alpine or ice climbing adventures has to be a work of art, and the Black Diamond Men's Stance Belay Insulated Parka is the Mona Lisa of all belay jackets. Two layers of 80g PrimaLoft Synergy bring the warmth without the weight even if it gets wet, so you stay nice and toasty while you belay your buddy. A Pertex shell adds durability, wind-resistance, breathability, and better moisture-wicking qualities than waterproof membranes. To make up for that lack of wet-weather protection, Black Diamond coated the jacket with DWR to help keep you dry while your climber scrapes ice down on your belay ledge.
The Stance features an adjustable hood that either slides over your helmet or cinches across your head. A two-way zipper at the center front aptly accommodates your harness, belay device, and rope. Stretch gussets at the cuffs softly seal out any blustery blizzard heading your way, and the drawcord at the hem retains all that wonderful warmth. The internal drop pockets have enough room for your gloves, and the chest pockets have even more space. With an internal pocket for your phone, you have plenty of space to warm up your digits in the hand pockets before you start your send.

The Stance Belay Parka Jacket is the warmest, most heavily insulated jacket made by Black Diamond, built to endure the gnarliest of alpine conditions. Thanks to the Pertex® shell and PrimaLoft® SYNERGY insulation, this jacket provides sleeping-bag level warmth, even when wet. Oversized internal and external pockets let you stash anything and everything you might need to carry such as water or an extra pair of gloves. The Black Diamond Stance Belay Parka Jacket is ready for your grand adventures.

With the Stance Belay Parka, Black Diamond has created a go-to piece for deeply cold conditions. They engineered this insulator with two layers of 80-gram Primaloft Synergy insulation for maximum warmth. Put it on over your soft-shell layer as you hunker down in bad conditions or take a turn at belay.

Black Diamond Stance Belay Parka Reviews:

I got this jacket for my wife so she wouldn't complain about belaying me on ice climbs and it worked! this thing is so warm she loves it! she gets cold easily and this thing has never failed to keep her warm and most the time its too warm. we have yet to test it in really cold weather but there is still a lot of ice climbing left to do this year.
for how thick and warm it is its surprisingly light and compressible. and all the pockets are great. we have also yet to have it in any serious weather, but I am confident it will preform well.
the stretch cuffs are money, so nice going over your other layers and the two way zip makes it easy to belay when you have it zipped up.
it does run big but it is supposed to, its fit is meant to be put on over all your layers. so with that in mind its true to size. if you wear a large then a large will fit you well over all your other layers. if you are buying this to use as a regular jacket with just a t-shirt or a base layer under it you should size down a size.
all in all this is a great jacket and like Micah said I think this is going to give the DAS a good run for its money.

The Stance Parka is a warm synthetic parka designed to fit over all layers. It's long and baggy, so no need to size up. The hand pockets are sewn in between the two layers of PrimaLoft so your hands stay warm, barehanded in the bitter cold, a great feature. The pockets are a bit excessiv: two hand, two napolean, and two internal (there is even a secondary pocket inside the napolean for your iPod). Something that doesn't bother me but many have issues with is that the zipper is Euro style so it zippers from the left, which just takes some getting used to. The hood is fully insulated so it provides serious warmth, though I'd like for it to zipper further up to provide face protection from blowing snow at the belay. Overall, this is a great synthetic layer to give the famous Patagonia DAS Parka a run for its money.
