Black Diamond Aspect Ski -
Black Diamond's Aspect Skis are the ideal wide skis for touring the backcountry. They have a 90 mm waist and semi-rocker tips for easy riding in powder. At the same time, the Aspect skis are just as functional on hard snow. An aggressive sidecut design and traditional shape provide quick and sharp turns on any terrain. The core is made from lightweight paulownia wood with carbon fiber reinforcements. This design gives the skis as much torsional stiffness as possible without much weight.
Full traditional camber and a flat tail ensure high performance in a variety of conditions. These skis are great for long-distance backcountry riding as well as shorter off-piste adventures. Black Diamond's Dual Torsion Bow Technology gives the edges power like a racing ski with a two rib design. Other features include SkinLock Tail Tabs and a deep sidecut. These skis have a more traditional touring ski cut and more traditional contact length than many currently available skis. They are just as great for mellow powder rides as more technical turf and more serious mountaineering adventures.

Fabric:

  • Torsion Box Cap construction combines torsion box and cap construction via fiberglass layers that wrap around the wood core like a burrito
  • Torsion Box Cap construction increases torsional power for more secure edge hold, and this construction gives the ski a more energetic feel underfoot
  • Lightweight paulownia wood core surrounded by Torsion Box construction
  • Dual Torsion Bow construction evenly distributes load across the ski and toward the edges via a pair of ribs shaped into the core and top structural materials underneath the topsheet

Weather and Wind:

  • Wide early-rise tip shape for deep snow flotation and easy turn initiation
  • 90mm waist is wide enough to provide moderate flotation in deep snow, quick edge-to-edge, and a stable platform for carving powerful turns at high speed
  • Rocker tip keeps the Aspect planing on top of soft snow, enables easier transition between turns, and lends the ski a more maneuverable feel in tight terrain

Sizing:

  • Flat tail with SkinLock for solid anchors and secure, durable skin attachment while maximizing running length
  • Aggressive, directional sidecut enables deep, precise short- to medium-length turns
  • Wider and with a more traditional contact length and touring ski shape than the Current

Manufactured:

  • Made in China

Features:

  • Dual Torsion Bow Technology with two ribs puts power to the edges, plus SkinLock tail tabs
  • US shipments only
  • Lightweight paulownia wood core with carbon fiber reinforcements for torsional rigidity
  • Traditional camber at the waist gives you superior edge hold and turn control directly underfoot
  • Carbon Fiber reinforcements are sandwiched between sintered base and the wood core in order to increase structural strength and provide a more consistent longitudinal flex
  • Mid-fat waist provides stability in variable conditions
  • Racing Edge is thinner and lighter weight than the Power Edge used in Black Diamond's other Freetour skis
  • Flat tail allows for a more powerful and complete turn exit, which gives you increased control on steep, fast, or technical terrain
  • Deep sidecut, traditional camber and a 90 mm waist for high-performance skiing, from out-of-bounds forays to long-distance backcountry projects
  • Dual Torsion Bow Technology with carbon fiber reinforcements for maximum torsional stiffness
  • Paulownia wood core gives this ski the strength of poplar wood and the snappy responsiveness and ultralight characteristics of balsa wood
  • Tail includes SkinLock attachment point that helps to keep the metal clip of your touring skin securely in place
  • Dual Torsion Bow geometry for balanced load
  • Semi-Rocker tip, full camber and flat tail for easy trail breaking and skiing in variable conditions
Backcountry.com
A wide-body, hybrid-rocker ski built for touring.

Black Diamond makes big-mountain skis, freetour skis, all-mountain skis, and touring skis. The Aspect Ski is dedicated touring ski with a versatile 90mm waist that's not quite fat, but definitely not skinny. The flat tail gives away its ascent-via-skin-track heritage while the semi-rocker tip gives a nod to the influence of highly agile, powder-hungry ski designs of the present. You can push this wood-core ride deep into its aggressive sidecut in steep backcountry terrain and float it through post-storm tree stashes.

Campsaver.com

A wide-bodied touring ski equally adept at mellow powder tours and serious ski mountaineering objectives, the Black Diamond Aspect has the chops for nearly any day in the backcountry. The Aspect features a 90 mm waist and a Semi-Rocker tip for easy trailbreaking and powder performance, as well as a traditional shape and aggressive sidecut for quick, slicing turns in technical terrain. A paulownia wood core and carbon fiber reinforcements lend the ski maximum torsional stiffness without any unnecessary weight.

Oregon Mountain Community (2011)
A wide-bodied, superlight touring ski, the Black Diamond Aspect might be the ultimate one-ski backcountry quiver. A wide, floaty tip and mid-fat 90 mm waist give this high-performance tourer-and turner-the girth to tackle soft or variable snow, plus an aggressive sidecut for quick, slicing turns on hardpack. Designed for everything from the occasional in-bounds foray to long-distance backcountry projects, the Aspect opens the door to new levels of speed, efficiency and skiing performance.

Mountain Gear

Efficiency and versatility blend in the design of Black Diamond's lightweight Aspect Ski giving you a plank that skis with the agility of narrower skis but has 90 mm underfoot for powder performance. Weight is reduced by using a paulownia wood core and Dual Torsion Bow Technology with carbon fiber reinforcements to provide greater control with less chatter on crud, powder, and crust.

Sierra Trading Post

Best All Around BD ski

I am generally unimpressed by BD skis, but these are very different. They are lively with good feedback about how much more I can push the ski before disaster happens. They skied well on and off piste. They were very predictable in every condition I had to throw at them and they are pretty cool looking as well.

great ski for a light backcountry ski

Is a fun ski inbounds even, lays down a good carve. It's lightness will shine in the backcountry.

Neutral Reviews:

Fun traditional ski. No rocker to be had on mine, no semi rocker what ever that is either. The up side of that it is has a good side cut and the ski is light in weight. Makes a greta spring ski but there are better spring skis. Decent on the steeps if the snow is good, but in soft snow it could be better...some rocker in the tip would help :-) This one is dated...dated in a good way but I wasn't wanting such a traditional ski when it was new. This year I finally decided to move to a more modern technology. A similar ski with some tip rocker and decentside cut. Great idea and a much more fun ski I think.
