Evogear (2010)

Black Diamond Havoc Skis 2010: Imagine a posse of howler monkeys with laser eyes and desire for destruction. Now multiply that by a million, and you’ll get a fraction of the mayhem you’ll be unleashing with Black Diamond’s Havoc ski. Newly revamped for 2010, the award-winning Havocs are specially designed for easy turn initiation and smoother edge hold, even at low speeds and in consolidated snow. An 88mm waist is perfect for technical terrain, while the Dual Torsion Bow Technology™ delivers a balance of maximum stability and nimble versatility. This translates to effortless control, with turns that are quicker than Paris Hilton’s music career. Go wreak some Havoc.

Marmot Mountain

The Havoc has power, stability, and it cruises through powder or crud effortlessly. The Dual Torsion Cross Bow technology distributes pressure proportionally to the entire length of the ski, and the 3D Densolite core provides unequalled torsional rigidity on edge. This all mountain ski with a Turn Radius of 22.5 (183cm), was one of the last two seasonÕs top performers. Although designed for the backcountry, they perform surprisingly well on the hard pack for a ski this wide. They are quick edge to edge and are lively when bounding from edge to edge. For the rider, they have twin tips for landing those tricks.

Reviews:

You probably don't know how much you want this ski

Rating:*****

If you're more into ripping than slogging, this ski is probably for you. It's light but stiff, it floats through pow but holds an edge. It kind of a paradox with metal edges ( I was fortunate enough that in the three years I have owned these bad boys I barely ever needed to actually sharpen them though). It doesn't seem like much has really changed on the ski so this review is probably still valid.

I skied Alta fluff, Northwest cement, and Mt. Shasta corn and loved every turn on these guys. I'm 5'10 180lbs and skied the 173 which was perfect for tight trees and anything less than thigh deep. Last year when we got 50 inches in a day at Portillo I decided I needed a longer, fatter ski so I ended up getting the Verdicts too. Remember, its a fairly stiff ski for a backcountry ski so don't try to bite off more than you can handle. When in doubt I would say go smaller. Smaller = lighter and more manageable with a softer touring boot.

So, the bottom line is, if you're looking for a midfat to add to your quiver, your first touring ski, or your one ski to do it all, you probably want the Havoc.
