Black Diamond LiveWire Quickdraw -
It’s alive.
Black Diamond took its high-performance Dynotron and LiveWire carabiners, slapped a 12cm vari-width dogbone between them, and officially called it the LiveWire Quickdraw. Unofficially, we call it the smoothest clipping, most badass-looking draw we’ve seen in years. The wiregate biner’s draw-friendly surface and Black Diamond’s Straitjacket (a rubberized dogbone insert that holds the biner in place) keep everything properly oriented and ready to clip when your forearms are gassed, and the hooded nose protects the wire gate opening when you pitch off at the crux.

Black Diamond LiveWire Quickdraw Reviews:

Positive Reviews:

When I first starting sport climbing I wasn't sure which quickdraw to go with given the many options avaliable. Then I climbed with my buddy who had a set of LiveWires. As soon as I got home from that trip I had a set of 12 in the mail coming my way. The thick dogbone makes hitting those just out of reach bolts a snap. The upper Dynotron biner is very smooth and easily slids into place on bolts. The wire gate is smooth but provides enough resistance to feel confident once you have the rope in it. They may weigh more than other biners but if your saying the weight of your quickdraws is preventing your sport ascent your pulling at excuses! Hands down the best quickdraw out there. The saying is true, you get what you pay for.

I dont own these draws, but have climbed on them and after doing so, turned a similar colour to them in envy!! they truely are awesome and seriously thinking of them for an addition to the 'redpointing rack'.
Clipping is totally seamless on both ends, and lets be honest - us sport climbers really dont care about weight, so who's complaining about the thicker dogbone?? Not me. Makes all the difference when, also much like a sportclimber, i'm doing the desperate two-handed grasp at the nylon with my sweaty little hands to prevent that fun little whipper my no-so-paying-attention belayer has set me up for. These define the word "dog"bone! Oh how i love sport climbing.... almost as much as these draws! Get em'!

Barnesy at Backcountry.com on 03/29/2012

I was originally shocked at how light these draws were despite the beefy dogbone and one straight gate carabiner. The straight gate biner clips into bolts so easily and the wire gate is just as easy and smooth with the rope. Some of the smoothest clipping action I've felt on a draw, like a hot knife through butter! The beefy dogbone gives confidence and doesn't twist as much as the usual skinnier counterparts. I kept commenting aloud at the crag to my friend how much I liked these that other climbers asked to check them or try them out. Needless to say, they agreed! After using the BD Freewire for years, this is a well worth upgrade.

So i have been hesitant to swap my trusty metal biners for the wire gates, and have been researching all the pros and cons. I found myself in a climbing shop and the guy told me this particular draw is the latest model and the spine shape has differed from previous models, so i reviewed their entire store collection and purchased one.
Later that day i used it as my 2nd clip for a lead.. wow. Slides onto the bolt cos its minus the hook, and a very smooth clip with the wire at the bottom. I am now on this websire to purchase a set and will use them as my new gear. 2 thumbs up.

SO WORTH IT FOR ME!

Some will find these too expensive. Some will find them a must-have. I am definitely grateful that I spent the money to have a set of these. Of course the biners are top-notch, the thick dog-bone is what I like, but for me, the best feature on this draw are the little ridges on the hanging biner that give you a little bit of extra grip when clipping. I have needed that on more than one occasion. It goes without saying that they shine and shimmer like gods when hanging on the bolts as well!

Incredibly comfortable draw...probably not for the tiny handed.

This draw has great hand feel. It sits nicely in your palm and sticks where it needs to stick while being smooth where it needs to be smooth. Don't be too concerned with weight. When you break it down it's similar in weight to most of BDs other draws except the ultralights. In exchange you get a runner that won't spin around and a draw that won't slip and spin in your hand. I do imaging though that if I had tiny hands it might be a rather meaty draw to wrap my fingers around.

This is my first set of draws, and they are great. Yes they are expensive, but these are the best you can buy. These don't twist at all, with the thick dog-bone. They are heavier than other draws, but who cares. Both the 'biners are great, you have the dynotron on top and the livewire on the bottom. Both very high quality Carabiners. All i can say is they are excellent. Wish they offered them in different lengths. Great Draws, would recommend them to anyone.

Best BD sport draws, maybe best sport draws period?

These certainly aren't the lightest or the cheapest draws around, but they make up for it in style and easy clipping. The gate action is pretty similar to other BD wiregates, so if you're used to petzl spirits (which are really quite similar) you might find them a bit softer. Like the spirits, these have a fatty dogbone, which is nice to latch onto when you're working routes. As an added bonus, the flashy green anodizing pops in photos, and is probably lucky to boot.

It's everything that is good about a draw. The bottom wire crab is easy to clip, to the point that you have to sight the fact that the rope is in. The top crab is solid yet light and perfect to handle. If you clip bolts and redpointing is your thing, you should have these.

Simon Vaughan at Backcountry.com on 11/13/2010

This is the draw that tops them all. I have used them all and no draw, even the Petzl Spirit Express, come close to the handling and clippability of this draw. While it is a little pricey, I promise you this draw is worth every cent. You won't be dissapointed, buy them.

Negative Reviews:

not bad seen worse, but its more of a kia than the cadilac BD claims

Firstly, I do own 12 of these quick draws. they do what they are supposed to do, I.E. hold the rope . However for the asking price there are better draws. the rubber rope end biner holder it a after thought that did not work. the gate action on the bolt end is weak and spongy. they are made in Taiwan, I know BD makes all the biners in China...but these are made in Taiwan. which is a violation of BDs own statement that they own and do quality control on all their stock. buy the petzl spirt or the DMM alpha draws which are the same price range with the same dog bone style
