The Black Diamond Outlaw AvaLung Pack is a deluxe all-purpose snowboard or ski pack with unique back door access. A tool organizer pocket is available to keep rescue essentials at hand. Also included with the Black Diamond Outlaw AvaLung Pack are a helmet holder, a hipbelt stash pocket, and a fleece-lined goggle pocket so that you can bring your helmet, goggles, and small items without the need to hold on to them.
This product can only be shipped to U.S. addresses.

  • Padded, adjustable SwingArm straps are linked on the bottom with a cable so they move in concert with any body movement

  • Different ski carrying options are available to accommodate either ski or snowboard
  • The Avalung pack apparatus lets you breathe air directly from the snowpack via a mouthpiece
  • Backpanel access keeps your backpanel dry when you place the bag on the ground to access your gear
  • A helmet holder to avoid misplacing your helmets
  • Fresh air is pulled from the valve box by your shoulder and through the Avalung mouthpiece, and when you exhale, CO2 is expelled from the exhaust port by your waist
  • HiLo helmet holder allows you to access the pack without having to remove your helmet from the bag
  • AvaLung extends your air supply from approximately 15 minutes to 58 minutes giving you a much better chance of survival
  • Front and back panel access to main compartment lets you get to your gear quickly and easily, even with skis or a snowboard attached

Black Diamond Outlaw Ski Pack Reviews:

Weekend Warrior Backcountry Pack

I needed a new pack for my weekend trips up to the White Mountains. I have been also gathering gear for Backcountry. This looked like the perfect pack for me. What originally drew me to it was the AvaLung. I am a big fan of Black Diamond's gear and this pack has surpassed my expectations of a weekend pack. I have used this for bringing all of my gear and clothes for the weekend, as well as a pack for when skiing. The ErgoActiv technology sounded kind of cheesy to me at first. But I noticed when I put the pack on that the hip harness actually can swivel slightly. I took this through some pretty steep terrain, jumps, and glades. I have to say I was amazed at how I never felt it impacting my balance or performance at all. A feature that may get looked over at first glance is the flap on the back side of the pack that can open up and give you access to the main compartment. It has become one of my favorite things about this pack. Having skis mounted A-frame makes it hard to unzip the whole main compartment so just laying down your pack and opening it up through the back is just fantastic. I also really love the locking straps, they make it very fast and easy to tighten or loosen gear while still being able to hold a lot of weight.

Overall It is one of my favorite pieces of gear I own now. It looks great, is super comfortable and functional, and it holds everything I need(even ice axes). I highly recommend purchasing this pack if you plan on taking weekend trips or going into the backcountry.

Great size for daytrips in the backcountry. I carry a fairly extensive emergency kit (1st aid, tools, parts, bivy sack, poop kit, etc.), 1.4L Nalgene, Thermos, food, goggles, extra puffy layer, misc. small stuff (glove liners, sunscreen, etc.), sometimes misc. mountaineering gear (short rope, biners, ice axe), a full snow-study kit, snow saw, and full avy gear. This pack fits it all very nicely.
I upgraded to the Outlaw from the Dakine Pro II and I've been really happy with the extra space. The Pro II is also a great pack but you can really see the mountaineering background in the BD product. The splitty rides great in tour mode as skis A-Frame-style, and fairly well in vertical board carry style.
The only small complaint I have had so far is that the goggle stash is a bit snug, but it's not overly vexing.
The avy tool organizer pocket is outstanding. I roll with my probe, shovel handle, and saw in the sleeves and my shovel blade and study kit in front of those. Great fit.
Another stand-out feature is the swing-arm hip belt. Comparatively it's a huge upgrade both while touring and while riding.
I'm already plotting to grab a Anarchist for multi-day trips and hut tours.

Black Diamond does it again.

I used this pack for touring during my trip to Jackson Hole this winter. I'm very happy I went out of my way to get it from EMS. Black Diamond is solid design you can rely on. After putting all my avie gear and 3L water bladder in, there was still plenty of room to stuff in extra layers, group gear and snacks.

I can't say too much about the Avalung. I bought this pack because it had it and hopefully will never have to use it. It doesn't add much bulk to the pack, so I'm going with it's worth the extra money if it really could extend your burial survival rate.

I look forward to many more days of touring with this pack.

Pretty Perfect

Overall it is super comfortable and functional with a pocket for avalanche gear(even has a hole at the bottom to drain water). Has a pouch for hydration with an insulated sleeve. The access door on the back of the pack is super convenient when carrying skis. The one and only con I have with this pack is that when carrying a lot of weight the intake box will dig into your shoulder a little over time. So if you are not using the Avalung feature that day remove it and it will eliminate that con. For the most part you won't notice the intake box though. The material feels very durable and can hold plenty of weight. Also the pack is very stable.

Used this for a few preseason tours and I'm really happy i choose this pack. Its got tons of room to carry all your gear, easy front and rear access into the pack and spacious and organized snow tool pocket.
The ergoActiv waist-belt is an awesome bonus too. It makes the pack move with you and makes touring and riding with a pack more enjoyable.
Awesome pack I look forward to using all season.
