The Black Diamond Oval Wire Carabiner is a sleek, useful, must-have addition to your climbing rack. This carabiner comes with the same symmetrical design as the traditional Oval, but improved with its sleek body. The wire gate is great for cold weather climbing conditions, as it resists whiplash and freezing temperatures. With an open gate strength of 7 kN and a closed gate strength of 23 kN, the carabiner is built for heavy loads and is much stronger than traditional ones. A wide gate opening of 1 inch gives room for a large number of nuts and pins to be accommodated. So make sure you have a Black Diamond Oval Wire Carabiner included, as part of your climbing gear.

Love these biners

These new-school oval biners are awesome. They have made huge improvements over the original design. Namely, they are slightly asymmetric, which causes the majority of the load to go across the spine. This is in part why these are stronger (23kN) than a true oval (~18kN).

I like using these mainly for racking gear such as a set of nuts and a set of tricams. I also like using two of them sometimes for a main anchor point when top roping, with the gates reversed and opposed, of course.

Great Racking Krab

I love this carabiner. Anytime I need to get krabs to rack gear or hold stuff on my harness I grab one of these. Although I haven't used it for anchoring purposes, the large gate opening is great and the large internal area allows it to hold a lot of gear. I carry my shoes on my harness with this carabiner. I wish Black Diamond made a locking version of this.

Best all arounder

In my opnion, the best all around nonlocking 'biner out there. This thing does it all, its a workhorse on anything from yosemite big walls to icy alpine routes. The symmetrical design is ideal for using two 'biners reversed and opposed. And the wiregate is lighter, less prone to freezing in alpine environments and reduces the possibility of gate fluttering and accidental opening. And you cant beat the price!

Great All Around Biner

I rack my cams on these biners, they are great, I also have them on some of my slings. they are thin (so you can fit alot of them on a gear loop, have a good rope bearing surface, not too heavy, although it would be nice if they were lighter, easy to clip, and have an offset interior which helps keep the rope away from the gate.
John Duke at REI on 10/10/2007

Does everything you need it to, except be perfectly oval-shaped. I got a few of these because I don't like running non-loadworthy gear on my harness and needed some extra gear clips and something to hold my chalk bag. It's a little awkward for the chalk due to the shape, but it ultimately works. Other than that: super light and no issues. Love the wire gate.

Benjamin McKinney at Backcountry.com on 07/23/2012

these are great biners i love them for racking stoppers and other bulk gear, i also love these for throwing a sling in there and making some alpine draws. they are light, cheap, sexy and the wire gates wont freeze up on you. just buy ten and have them handy!

kev p at Backcountry.com on 05/07/2010

these things are great. super simple and easy to use. i use these to rack my nuts and a few other pieces. they're nice and light and seem pretty durable. i haven't used them long but the gates seem smooth as ever.

Casey Glaubman at Backcountry.com on 05/20/2012

lightweight, cheap, strong, and a nice wide opening. What more do you want? rack it up!
if you want to get picky, complain about the lack of keynose- and then take out a 2nd mortgage to rack with those

Climb&Ski the BC at Backcountry.com on 03/20/2010

This biner is great for racking extra stoppers and hexes on those long multi-pitch routes when you want to prevent long run-outs. Lightweight and able to carry a lot of stoppers.

Nick Shuey at Backcountry.com on 07/07/2013

Simple, strong, light, quality, cheap. I have nothing bad to say about this carabiner. It has many uses from anchors to just racking up gear.
Go out and get one, or ten!
