I originally bought two of these for a two week hike in Europe. I used one to clip my boots on the the back of my pack when I wasn't wearing them. I used the other to fasten various things to my pack (laundry drying, secure my trekking poles when not in use, extra water bottle). I was so impressed with their functionality that when the family was planning a two week camping trip they were an absolute must for each family member. I purchased another 10. They held water shoes or boots depending on the needed footwear at the time without putting the dirty shoes inside the bag. The held the backup water bottle. My son attached his cameral to one at chest level so he could quickly grab a photo as we walked.
Always liked the wire gate better. Keep it on the belt loop of my pants, slide the ring on and off as needed. For me, just wanted the key and the password keyfob out of my pocket. Still working on my first one, at least two years old with everyday use and just have a tad bit of wear on the finish going silver. Wire gate is like the day I bought it.
This is great for clipping your cap or other light stuff to your pack. If climbing, it is excellent for clipping your chalk bag to your harness without having to use a full size carabiner that you may need later (never use this for holding more than a couple of pounds). It is better than other similar keyring carabiners because it has a little more space without being bulky.
These carabiners are half the size of regular climbing biners but are plenty strong for Kayak tow and tether lines. Because of their small size they are excellent for use on lanyards to attach small items to Kayak or PFD. They resist corrosion which is a good thing around water. Since they are not load rated, they should not be used in rescue applications.
I bought a few for the family. Great little biner for keys or clipping shoes and hats to our backpacks on our hikes. I also just thought it was cool that they were miniature Black Diamond biners like my climbing gear.
