Black Diamond Sphynx 42L

Hiking & Camping > BackpacksRated: ***** by 2 reviews.

Paragon Sports

A rock and ice top-loader with a low-profile design and clean lines, the Black Diamond Sphynx 42L has plenty of room for your winter gear yet is versatile enough for all-season use. Built to carry technical gear, it uses a super durable 420d nylon construction.

Features:

  • Die Cut Hypalon: Two-layer Hypalon accessory loops are incredibly durable and streamlined as opposed to the clutter of traditional webbing accessory loops. Grippy and extremely tough, Hypalon is ideal for attaching ice and snow gear to your pack.
  • Ergo-molded: Suspension Ergo-molded foam back panels, waistbelts and shoulder straps are anatomically shaped to eliminate pressure points while transferring the load evenly over areas of contact. Our ergo-molded suspensions allow for a custom-fit feel with excellent support.
  • Hydration compatible
  • Secure PickPocket ice tool holders
  • Shock cord helmet holder
  • Side tool straps provide wide compression range
  • SilNylon: Our SilNylon is silicone and PU-coated nylon—a unique material with a high strength-to-weight ratio, water-shedding capability and the ability to self-heal small punctures. SilNylon is used throughout our pack line for its light weight and excellent strength.
  • Volume: 42L (2563 CU IN)
  • Weight: 1.40KG (3 LB 1 OZ)
  • Y-Rod: Our unique Y-Rod aluminum stay, with no welded points, provides support where needed, yet enough flexibility to give total freedom of movement. Cut and bent from aluminum rod stock, the Y-Rod offers a better strength-to-weight ratio than more common aluminum pack stays.

"I want another one!"

Rating:*****
I bought the pack for a canyoneering adventure in Zion, UT. We were going down Imlay canyon and I needed something tough, light and with a good suspension design. The pack performed really well. It was loaded with about 35 lbs. of gear, dragged through potholes, down scraping sandstone chimneys, immersed in water for 8 hours, and dragged over river rocks in the Virgin Narrows. It performed really well--the 42 liters is perfect for a lightweight overnight adventure trip-.

I got this pack for trad climbing. It holds a complete rack, rope, food and water. It tapers down at the bottom which is odd but I can deal with it. Came with a bunch of mountaineering accessories that I wont use. I don't think you can get a better approach pack for the money.
