Great light, complex switch combinations

It was worth the extra [$]! I would have rated it with four stars if it had used two batteries. But I guess the higher power needed the third battery to get sufficient run-time life or power. It's a pretty compact light despite using three AAA batteries. There are plenty of lighting combinations and they are all pretty effective. However, trying to remember the combination of clicks on the push-button switch is tough to do between infrequent outings. I wish BD would have molded the instructions onto the plastic to provide users a "cheat sheet." The high beam is pretty far reaching and broad enough to be effective. The tilt feature is simple and very stable (and a little tight to adjust, of course). Low beam is pretty broad and effective. I really like the dimming feature. It's great for reading or other low-light needs.

Great Multi-Purpose Headlamp

After the kids lost my headlamp of 8yrs i had to find a new one and after a long search, i can say i'm happy they did....
This is a great light for multiple uses. The spot light gives more then enough light for just about any task in the dark....from camping, to and from hunting areas, fishing, working around the house......The light is comfortable around your head with plenty of adjustment room for over a hat, and battery life is very impressive.....The low beam is a good medium......The dimming feature was a great idea, I've used it much more then i thought i would.... The only slight negative, which I'm getting a little picky now, i wish the red light could be just a bit brighter. Overall, Extremely happy with my purchase & would do it again if necessary.......

Amazing Purchase

I have had my Storm headlamp for about a year and a half and have nothing bad to say for it at all! It's been with me on almost every excursion (minus a few where I used its brother, the spot, to save some weight) from night time mountain biking to kayaking on the great lakes. I have completely submerged it in water when I was kayaking and it still kept going strong even through all the mist and spray from the waves. Despite being a bit bulky, it makes up for it by putting out a whopping 100 lumens (the most I have seen with out having a separate battery pack). This is a great buy and will provide lots of years of lighting the way. Black Diamond did a great job with this one!
Adventure Junki at Mountain Gear on 03/03/2012

Yeah, that's bright

I found no fault with this product. Compared to the 3 pairs of the el-cheapo stuff which I just went ahead and threw away. At least these work. They turn on and turn off like they are supposed to. Use them as the manufacturer intends them to be used and they will do the trick. Lot of people have complained about the red light, these are not blood trail trackers. If you are out hunting coyotes at night and you need to see your watch or gear, the red light won't spook the critters.
Sort of expensive (for me), but they DO work. For what I spent on the 3 pair of el-cheapo's, I could have bought a pair of these.
LEUPOLDFAN at Cabelas on 01/14/2014

Great overall headlamp

Very happy with this headlamp. Actually have 2 of them and use it for many things. The red lights come in handy when you need a little light and don't want to kill your night vision. My only gripe is that the button is sometimes tricky to locate. It is not a pronounced button so I find myself feeling around for it sometimes.
DRR at Campmor on 06/06/2012

100 Lumen, but not 50h

I using this headlamp for more than a year. Used on long hikes, ultra-marathons, navigation races.

I really like this lamp it is powerful, have all that I need. But even with best batteries on max output it working only about 10h (good for 1 summer night or big part of winter night). So, it is definitely not a 50h......
mvkazit at Mountain Gear on 04/04/2012

great headlamp

used it on a 3day backpack trip and found it very effective...really bright, finding the button on top seems tricky at times, a little bulky, wouldn't probably use it for trail/road night running, but I thought great for backpacking/camping purposes...used the red light mode fairly often inside the tent and was very effective
Strider at Campmor on 01/01/2012

Cool lamp

Lots of great features, especially the battery indicator. A little hard to know the correct battery loading configuration (+/_, anode/cathode) from the indicators inside the battery compartment, wwould be difficult to impossible if you had to do it in the dark, but I guess that's the good think about the battery level indicator.
Ron at SummitHut.com on 11/11/2011

Very Bright & Functional

I own several headlamps and this one is by far my favorite.

It is very comfortable and is incredibly light. The light itself is very bright and its different functions have been incredibly useful. The waterproofing also held up great in a pretty decent downpour.
Backpacking Daniel at REI on 12/12/2013

Such a great Little headlamp!

Great feature set! A nice balance of light power and batteries. Stood the test of moisture again and again! Great features, Battery life indicator, button lock, Waterproof, nice ambient field, nice dimmer control, light weight!...Did I mention the great features?!
Adam at SummitHut.com on 08/08/2012

Negative Reviews:

Very Bright white light

The bright setting on this lamp is awesome! But I bought it for alligator hunting, which when you switch to the red lamp, I can't even see my feet in the dark, so I am going to keep the lamp for using outside on my smoker at night, in my engine room on the boat, etc. GREAT very bright light, brightest I have had. Now have to go purchase another light though, because I need one with a good red lamp on it too, so as not to spook the alligators or other game when hunting at night. So if you are looking for just a good white light, need a bright one, this is IT! But if you need the red lamp for anything, even fishing, this one provides the light of about 1 match burning, actually not even that much, very dim.
