Warm, Dry, Excellent All-Around Gloves

I bought these as 'all around' gloves.. Something to wear when I get in my 20* car in the morning, to walk around outside, and non-active situations. So, I wanted something that was just warm on its own without me having to be working. I got a nice surprise when I found they gripped things well.. like a shovel in a recent snow storm.. and stayed warm and dry. I even tried them as gloves for riding a bike in 3" deep snow while it was sleeting. My hands stayed warm and somewhat dry.. They exceeded my expectations. These gloves fit better than any glove I've owned and work great. They seem pretty simple, are easy to put on and take off.. and do their job better than any other glove I've ever used. I've used cheaper ones like Nautica's with Thinsulate, Columbia's, and more than I care to remember.. The only thing I don't know is how to wash them.. I must have misplaced that piece of info. They have goat suede on them so I'm not sure about machine washing. I've used them for a week every day with a wide variety of tasks where I was sweaty and even muddy.. but the gloves still look and smell like new. So, I'm not too worried about it yet. I was pretty suspicious of [$] gloves but these really are a deal. If they fit you well, they're a no-brainer.

Great Fit!

I got these a few years back, and they are just now starting to wear out. They had little bumps on the fingers, but those were gone in about 5 minutes as soon as I climbed something. So even without the grippy bumps they work fantastic! These are the only gloves I've owned that have long enough fingers. My hands aren't that large(I don't think), but whatever hand they use to size most gloves must be missing the top half inch of fingertip it seems. The between finger seam on these actually goes down to where my fingers meet! I was amazed with that. My area just got pounded with snow, and after days and days of shoveling/snowball fights, well it's about time for new gloves. I shouldn't have used these as snow gloves, but I don't have a decent pair other than these, so the constant soaking/drying has left them in need of replacement. Not the glove's fault, they just aren't meant for heavy snow use. Anyway, if you need a great glove to keep wind and cold out, and you're tired of having to wear fingerless gloves because it seems like regular gloves are designed for people with half a thumb and stumpy fingers, well I hope Black Diamond's other models are this nice because these gloves rock!

Gloves fit tight AND keep your hand warm

I have long been searching for a pair of gloves that keep my hands warm in the cold winters of BEND, Oregon. I have tried just about everything out there and finally found these several years back. They fit the bill for all of my demands: 1) Fit tight around the tips of my fingers so I don't loose deterity and can keep them on while typing on my in car computer and while contactingd/searching subjects on the street, 2)Keep my hands warm in the deep cold and windy conditions where I work, 3) Are DURABLE, and 4) Can be washed in the laundry. As you can imagine my gloves get very dirty at work and I have washed them regularly in the laundry. It not only cleans them, but also makes them a bit tighter after they have stretched out from daily wear.

These gloves are perfect for what I needed and I hope Black Diamond continues to make them and REI continues to carry them for a long time. Otherwise I will have to buy a box of them to always have a pair on hand!

I love these gloves. I use them a lot for biking, but they are in pack for almost all the time for almost everything during the fall, winter and spring.
Very windproof - I use them for bike rides year round, sometimes even in -10F weather for just a mile or two. Combined with a windstopper jacket or a down, commuting or riding around town or riding to campus is easy.
These gloves are also quite durable. When I'm not using them for cold weather biking, I throw them in the pack for all kinds of hiking or mountaineering. So far everything has held up fine.
I would not use these as a substitute for a waterproof glove, but in a bind they will keep your hands dry for a while while performing various activities (snowball fights, maybe building a snow fort).
These gloves are also super versatile. A good amount of dexterity makes them useful for many situations.
After a few years the finger grips have worn down slightly due to normal, almost daily use.

Conditions: Humidity 52%, Wind N 17 MPH w/gusts to 21 MPH or so, Wind chill 7 deg. F., Temp 21 deg. F., Fair to partly cloudy.
Activity: brisk 45 minute to 1 hour walk.
Geography: N. Texas plains, nothing to block the wind except for the occasional house.
My hands measures 8 inches. In the men's large there was very little extra room to spare, pretty much a perfect fit. The seams inside the fingers of the gloves are large but livable (thus the 4 stars instead of 5). During my walk my hands stayed quite warm and the mild wind never got through these gloves. I have also used them in conditions where the wind was gusting to 30+ MPH with the temperature in the upper 30's to low 40's and was pleased with their performance as well. If the seams inside the gloves were just a bit more flattened out I would rate them 5 stars. In spite of this I would purchase this product again.

I love these gloves. I had the women's pair, but lost one of them while I was out hiking. I was so disappointed because they aren't cheap! so as winter rolled around again, I decided I couldn't live without them. so I bought another pair, a size smaller, in men's. I like the men version because the wrist is wider. that was my only gripe with the women's pair was the wrist size was small making them hard to get on and off. they are super warm, durable, wind stopper, and a perfect all around glove for snowshoeing, shoveling snow, and everyday use for battling the cold in colorado. I have not had any regrets spending a little more money for these gloves. they are perfect. and spend a significant amount of time on my hands in the winter!

My Favorite Gloves

My favorite pair of gloves. They are very warm without being too bulky. Gloves need to fit well so they have good dexterity handling the lines of a paraglider, These gloves are not clumsy like others. They are also windproof which is a must for paragliding. The ability of a glove to block wind directly relates to how long your hands will stay warm and therefore you are able to fly comfortably. I like the durability of these gloves as well, the leather palm is a distinct upgrade from other brands which use less durable synthetics. I'm on my second pair because I lost my first, and I plan to buy a third just in case. Put these gloves on my "desert island list." (for the cold days on the island).

Look no further !

If you are looking for a pair of mid-weight, wind proof/water proof gloves, look no further.

This pair of BD gloves have been with me under several several winter mountaineering conditions. Climbing in Thigh-deep snow steep slope, high wind, whiteout, it works magically if you keep moving. You will thank it later when you have to fight through snow for 10 hours because you can still feel your fingers.

I also use this gloves for everyday use and driving, no problem.

I also recommend REI's switchback gloves for serious mountaineering use. These two pairs of gloves will cover bascially all your needs in the winter.

High recommended, the only other pair of mid-weight gloves I bought were from EMS, the BD simply blow it away.

Favorite active winter gloves

These have been my favorite all around winter gloves of all time. I've used them for casual winter wear, hiking, short duration snow ball fights, and especially for winter cycling. I live in Seattle where the winters are somewhat mild, but often windy and rainy on bike rides to/from work. My hands are always comfy in these, though occasionally a bit warm as I top out hills. They'll keep your fingers warm even when soaking wet. They happen to fit my hands perfectly and the leather palm liner survived two years of cycle commuting without showing much wear. My only problem with these gloves is that I've lost two pairs and they never seem to make it to lost & found :-).

Great gloves!

I love these gloves! Climbed Old Rag Mountain in Shenandoah NP this past November and these gloves were great! 6 hours outdoors with temperatures at times below freezing and very high gusting winds and my hands were warm the whole time. I did try running in them in about 40 degree weather back home in TX and my hands got way too hot, so I don't recommend them as running gloves. But overall for just cold weather living these are great gloves!

Neutral Reviews:

If you end up with this glove you will likely not be disappointed, but if given a choice I don't see why you would purchase this model over the BD stormweight. This one is bulkier (worse dexterity) and lacks the palm reinforcement. Wind blockage between the two models is close enough to be even in my book.
