Traditional Powder Horn

OBVIOUSLY some folks don't know much about powder horns! FIRST, You DON'T fill the horn from the BOTTOM! This is why the LARGE cap at the top HAS SCREWS, instead of being GLUED in place. I've had (and used) one of these for OVER 20 YEARS without trouble! (After over 20 years, mine wore a little thin at the top, and developed a small crack just under the top cap, necessitating a repair.)
I modified mine to accept a valve and powder measure tubes. (I Know, NOT period, But, Oh Well! At least the plug doesn't fall out!) And Yes, I've carried mine slung over my shoulder all these years.

Traditional Horn

It is accurate for the time period horns were used. I use a modern 5 ounce Pedersoll tubular flask to fill mine as the hole is narrow. You can drill it larger if your handy at all. I use the horn hunting as people after the Civil War would have with my cap lock however at he range the modern unit is allot nicer for repeatedly reloading. I hope this is helpful.

The manufacturer of the poweder horn must make sure the membrane inside of the horn is removed completely at the factory before being shipped out to retail stores.
