Worth its Weight in Gold
Rarely do I ever find a product that is so good that I feel compelled to write a review about it. I have been searching for a cure for as long as I can remember for chafing in the nether-regions. I have grown up in the south and always been plagued by excruciating pain after doing anything active outdoors in 90+ degree weather. I have used every known home remedy and nothing has worked as well as this or been as easy and non-messy to use. I work at a restaurant that requires us to wear jeans and we have a patio. I always considered this "cruel and unusual punishment." By the end of a twelve hour shift I could barely walk without severe pain. This product allows me to work all day unaffected by the heat, sweat, and irritation that used to cripple me by the end of the day. It prevents saddle sores while cycling. I use it on my stomach when "boogie-boarding" at the beach. I put it under my pack straps and on my feet when backpacking. I have nothing bad to say about this product. It has allowed me to enjoy every step of a hike in the summer around where I live. The last few miles of a hike used to be excruciating which really can rob the splendor of the overlooks and the small beauties along the way. I wish that I had found this product ten years ago. I have suggested this product to all of my hiking buddies and fellow servers at work. If you have any doubt just buy this product and you will feel the same way. It might be my imagination but it also seems to reduce odor as well. This stuff is great!!! Never greasy, never messy, a preventative measure as well as a cure. Thanks Body Glide!!!
"I keep this in my purse at all times"
I initially bought this product to use for a weekend of sight-seeing and museum hopping in Washington DC over 2 years ago. I can walk miles in heels, but not without serious discomfort and blisters at the end of the day. The chafing stick allows me to spend an afternoon or evening in my "girly shoes" blister free! Upon sharing this information with my girlfriends, who also often opt for fashion over comfort, we discovered how well this works under bra straps.
Months later I finally used this while camping/hiking and have since discovered it is perfect under the straps of my Chaco's. Rafting on the Colorado River in wet shoes would have normally left my heels red and irritated, but I used this each morning and I had no redness or discomfort on my heels, while others in my group were blistered and found it painful to walk the next morning.
But the best use I've discovered thus far, and there are many, is for a family member who is on oxygen 24 hours a day. The cannula she wears under her nose and behind the ears was irritating her skin. I looked everywhere for a product to prevent the red welts she awoke with every morning. The BodyGlide anti-chafing stick is the only product that has worked. She applies it under the nose, accross the cheeks, and behind the ears, (any place the cannula sits against her skin). While recently in the hospital both doctors and nurses commented on how great the product worked and wanted to know where to buy it - I happily told them REI. Perhaps BodyGlide should consider marketing their product to the medical community. Other friends and family now use this while wearing a cpap mask for sleep apnea as well.
Incredibly useful product!
I hike with Chacos and I don't hike without bodyglide. Let's put it like that. I love my chacos, but the straps will start to tear my feet and parts of my foot along the footbed will start to blister starting at about 5-6 miles. The effects are even more intense when hiking through water, which I love doing as well.
Whenever I go out for a hike, I make a point to grease up my feet with bodyglide at the points I know I'll develop hotspots on. It's a little slippery at first, so I gotta make sure I really cinch down my straps so that my feet don't slide around too much, but the right balance of slipperyness/grip (with a slightly more slipperyness, especially at first) is quickly found. The helpful effects of bodyglide last for miles and when it starts to wear off, it's a snap to quickly apply some more.
I've also found it really useful for the inside of my arms near my biceps. My arms sometimes brush up against the strapping of the shoulder straps and the bodyglide really helps with the chafing here.
To me, bodyglide is just as important part of my kit as my first aid kit and extra food. I just leave it in my pack and it's always there when I need it. If you have problems with blistering, chafing, or rubbing of any kind, just get some. You'll be SO glad you did!
Best Blister prevention for hiking
Bodyglide can be used directly on your feet to prevent blisters. I use it this way, and to me it is indispensable.
Bodyglide was recommended in "Fixing your Feet" a book on how to maintain your precious feet in high use activities such as marathon running, cycling, multiday / section / thru- hiking, etc
Otherwise, I'd never think to use it this way. I had thought it was just for runners to put on their inside thighs to curb chafing.
At any rate, having tried everything from sock liners, duct tape, moleskin, veterinary super glue, a foot wrap technique used by special forces, talc, I've found the only thing that works. The ultimate solution (for me) is to thoroughly dry the skin of the complete foot with a towel or bandana, treat skin with talc, then apply the Bodyglide lightly on all areas of the foot and liberally on the areas that are prone to hotspots or blisters.
Once I started doing this, I was able to jump from 10-12 miles per day to 16-18 without incurring any damage to my feet beyond the bruising impact of over-weighted footfalls (37lb pack).
Bodyglide is now a staple in my pack. People on the trail look at me funny, but I hiked half of the co trail without a blister, starting with only a few short hikes of <6 miles for preparation so I didn't begin with callouses but tender feet.
Got on whim...grateful that I did!!
Never heard of it before and then noticed it on a rack at REI. I originally got it for my son to take to Scout camp three years ago. He was a bit overweight at the time and so his thighs rubbed together to form an extremely painful rash between his legs--to where he literally could not walk. He put this on over the course of a day and the inflammation subsided. It required several applications. He noticed positive results almost immediately, and by the next day it was as if he returned to normal. I use it any time there is skin irritation. Just put it on the hot spots, and no blisters form or rash burn--feet, hands, skin, neck, anything. No hype here...does exactly what it says it will do. Fantastic stuff!
KAYAKERS USE IT TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I never go on a kayak expedition without it!!! Sounds gross but my armpits get raw from paddling on long trips. The sweating and rubbing of fabric can make life unbearable. This product is a protective layer and preserves the skin and has no odor. I paddled one time without it, forgot it, and was hating life. Any friction problems walking, running, or paddling will be loved by all. There are no drawbacks other than not having it when you are in great pain or discomfort. Buy it and thank me later!!!!
I can't go a week without using it!
I love Bodyglide! I bought it when I was training for a marathon last year and it saved me on long runs. I used it before a 20-miler and no chafing occured. I forgot to use it once before a long run and my legs bled afterwards. It stays on through rain and constant use. I also use it on hot, humid Chicago summer days if I'm wearing a tight skirt. It has no odor, washes off easily with soap, and never stains clothes! It's a miracle :)
Passport, Tickets and BodyGlide!
Seriously, if you chafe or blister when you walk, you need this stuff. I can't iron a shirt without blistering and I can get a blister just walking to the airline departure gate and that can ruin a week trip to Paris if you intend walking when you get there. This stuff has saved me more times than I like to think. I buy them 3 at a time and use them everyday. Now I can walk like 'normal' people and enjoy things I never could before.
ease of getting shoes on
A couple of years ago I had the worst case of cracked heels. Also have a pair of Keens that are about 1/2 size too small, really a snug fit. If it weren't for the anti chaffe I would not have been able to pull the shoes on (used for hiking, walking in water on rocks), let alone walk in them. This product makes wearing these particular shoes very comfortable.
Excellent Product! Especially for Women
Excellent product! Not greasy, very light, lasts for hours without having to reapply. Can be used to prevent blisters, rubbing of materials (cuffs, bra straps, sandals, wetsuits, etc) or for women, it is perfect to apply between thighs to prevent chafing when wearing a skirt without stockings or tights. I use it all summer long and just need to apply it once in the morning. Highly recommend!!
