Born Whalen Reviews:

This review is for the Born Whalen, color: Anthracite (Dark Grey) Suede, size: 11.5. After wearing these for three weeks I've decided that the Whalen are comfortable business casual shoes that are suitable for the office but versatile and rugged enough for other purposes (e.g. biking and walking longer distances). The wingtip stitching is a nice stylish touch, but the contrast provided by the stitching doesn't exactly pop out -- so it's not as noticeable from a distance. One of the first things I did notice about these shoes was the high quality of their construction. I expect I'll be wearing them regularly for 2-3 years before they wear out. The insoles are plush -- among the most comfortable I've seen in this class of shoe. Do not plan on adding additional inserts. The fit is true to size. For most brands, I typically wear a men's 12 but the Born 11.5 is perfect. I have narrow feet and ankles but these shoes are a snug fit and are not overly roomy. Arch support is moderate. Be advised that although the anthracite color is marketed as dark grey, the actual color has a more brownish hue (I think the Zappos photos accurately reflect this, however). I actually prefer this color over dark grey so this was not a problem for me. Overall, I would give these shoes 5 stars...except for one problem: They do not breathe well at all! I suggest wearing thin breathable socks, maybe something made of merino wool or synthetic. Other than that, I'm happy with my purchase and recommend these shoes to others.

Great shoes that offer excellent comfort, style and fit. You can just feel the quality when wearing them, they hug your feet in comfort. Another nice thing is that they come with an extra pair of laces so that you can change the look of the shoe. One thing to point out with regard to shoe size is that I normally wear an 8.5 and got these in an 8 after reading other reviews stating that it is recommended to order at least a half size down. Many thanks to the Zappos team they always exceed my expectations.

Love these shoes! Wanted something dressier, but not coat and tie. These fit the bill. Color and finish are unusual, but neutral and a good look. Not your usual suede; looks like they rubbed the color over suede which burnished it. I wear a 14 M; fit is perfect. I have a high arch, and these give good arch support (they're not hiking boots!) And as always, what more can I say about Zappos? Their service (VIP) and selection is tops. I only buy from Zappos!

I absolutely love the style... would go great with nicer jeans for an upscale look, but the problem for me is that it has absolutely no arch support, and you can't replace the insole with one with better arch. The insole that's in there is super cushy, so if you don't need extra support, these would be amazingly comfortable. I'm so bummed that I have to return these.

These shoes are very attractive and stylish. They are also quite comfortable. They are very warm and don't breathe so well in hot weather but that is because they are leather. The only caveat is they do not have good grip so are not so good if it's wet and slippery outside. I like them and would probably recommend them to others.
