Brooks PureGrit 2 Reviews:

Positive Reviews:

I love my Brooks PureGrit 2s so much that I bought an extra pair to keep at my office for when I wanna do a workout there after work. I first had the PureGrit 1 and then when I put enough miles on those, I replaced them with the PG2s. LOVE the shoe - super comfortable, durable, great for both trail and road use, and have a great color scheme. My only potentially negative comment is that I found the sizing to be off - I am usually a women's 9.5, and *sometimes* I am a 10. But in Brooks PureGrit shoes I am a 10.5!! It took me a while to figure out why I had corns on the outside of my pinky toes, but I eventually figured out that it was because the shoe was too tight. Definitely try sizing up if you're not sure.

I love these shoes! I've been wearing them on a gym floor and wet astroturf and traction has been fantastic! I usually wear anywhere from a 9 to a 10. First I tried the 9 b/c I prefer a snug fit that doesn't allow my foot to slide around but I returned them for the 9.5 for some extra toe room. They're the perfect size but do run a little narrower than most tennis shoes which I like but if my foot were any wider I would have wanted to get a larger width. The elastic on the top keeps the tongue from slipping and though is tight at first, loosens up soon to fit foot perfectly! I wanted a minimalist shoe that was great for a lot of activities outside of just running and have been very pleased with my purchase!

LOVE this shoe

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Brooks PureGrit 2. This is my third pair of Brooks running shoes and they did not disappoint. I average about 30 miles/week on these shoes and use them for both trail and road running. Even though it is designed as a trail shoe, the majority of my miles are on paved paths. My only complaint is with regard to sizing. For some reason, I think this shoe runs a bit small. I am usually a Women's 9.5 but in Brooks I am a 10.5 apparently. The first pair I bought was a 10, and I have corns on my small toes from the rubbing - so if you think they might be a little snug, it might be worth going a half size up (or in my case, a full size).

Happy running!

Amazing pair of shoes!

I use these shoes at least 2-4 per week. I use them solely for running and hiking. They are the best trail and track running/hiking shoe I've ever bought. They feel like running on clouds. Plus they are an awesome color and look good! I get a ton of complements! They do run a half size small, had to get a size 8 instead of 7 1/2, but that's not a big deal to me. So over all you need a good pair of hiking/ running shoes this is the perfect pair of shoes for you! Happy running and hiking!!!!!

Lightest Shoe Ever!

Use this shoe daily when I attend Physical Training (PT) and our runs that vary 2 to 5 miles. It lasted the terrain of Afghanistan when I was deployed and worked perfectly. The only issue I had with it so far is the inner sole almost felt it was irritating the sides of my feet, it may be caused with long wear. The lace off to the side is perfect so the tongue of the shoe doesn't feel as though it is in the way. I feel its a more comfortable grip while I run and stays snug longer.

Much needed update of the 1st Pure Grit

I owned the initial Pure Grit model and was surprised that for a company like Brooks that is based in Seattle (where the conditions are often wet) how poor the traction was - I would slip even on sidewalks and it was supposed to be a trail shoe! Fortunately, they have updated the sole of the Pure Grit 2 with much better traction. Also, I found the elastic band at the top of the old model to be too tight and had to cut it out of the shoe but it feels much more comfortable on this model.

I absolutely love these shoes! The heel is well supported. They are comfortable. The size is accurate, But if you have a wide foot it may not work for you. The toe box was a bit tight at first but I thought it needed wearing in. After a week, they were great. Worth the wait. I don't remember what the camel toe part was for, but I does feel less stiff than a traditional shoe. I am a teacher and on my feed all day, where good comfortable shoes make a difference.

Perfect for indoor/outdoor training

I was looking for a shoe that I could use for cross training. An REI employee recommended these. I have to say they were a bit snug when I tried them on, but he reassured me they would provide me with better support. He was right! I love them more each time I wear them. The "boat" like bottom causes constant instability which continually strengthens my core. Hopefully you'll love them as much as I do.

My new favorite running shoe! This is absolutely one of the most comfortable running shoes I've ever tried out. Unlike some Brooks models that run a half size small, I find this one to run true to size. Supportive, cushy, bouncy, and the teal/neon yellow color is awesome (looks a bit darker in person). A bit pricey, but for the comfort, I think it's worth it!

These shoes are awesome! I wear a 9 in most shoes and took a 9 in these as well. They are super grippy. I've had them out in mud and snow and they hardly slid at all. The toe box is wider than I'm used to but it's fine. They are comfortable and perform well. What more could you ask for?

Negative Reviews:

Rubs top of foot & heel

I've taken these trail running, hiking, and for work trips in the desert. I've never disliked a pair of shoes the way that I dislike them, and if they didn't look so beat-up from the ~2 total weeks of use (accumulated) that I've given them, I'd return them in a heartbeat (I feel bad returning beat-up gear to REI).

Things that I hate about them:
-I was drawn to the asymmetric lacing, but it puts a weird pressure on the top of my foot that aggravates the bone bump halfway between my toes and inner ankle. It's really uncomfortable, almost like the bone bump is getting inflamed. I've never had this issue before.
-The heel rubs, and I get blisters, even after breaking them in. Also, the heel fabric and foam wears *very* quickly.
-The laces are awful. It's true, they don't slip, but they're too short and they make unlacing and getting in/out of the shoes really annoying.
-Loses all of its grip when wet! Makes stream crossings kind of dangerous.

Things that I like:
-pretty color
-pretty light!
-decent grip when dry

As you can see, the cons far outweigh the pros. Seriously, if they didn't look like I got them 2 years ago and used them for everything (got them at the beginning of January this year and I try to avoid using these guys if I can help it), then I would have returned them months ago to REI. I only still use them occasionally because I can't afford a new pair of trail-runners right now, and they're my only non-minimalist shoes.

I wanted to like these, but...

Overall these shoes are fairly comfortable. However, the heel in the back was too high and rubbed on my heel/achilles resulting in blisters. I have the road version of these shoes, which are GREAT, but these don't quite fit the same. If the heel was lower and didn't rub me the wrong way, I would have kept these. Had to return.
