-Removable RAF tongue stiffener.

For as long as we can remember, the Burton Driver X snowboard boot has set the benchmark for insane response and ultimate support. The historically stiff flex got stiffer this year, which makes it as perfect for holding onto your line in critical conditions as it is for skinning back up. The Speed Zone dual zone lace system makes it easy get your boots as tight as you need for a flawless fit. There's a removable tongue insert, just in case you're looking for even more response. It doesn't hurt that the grippy Vibram EcoStep Plus outsole gets an upgrade in the form of Ice Spikes, which make the last few feet of your ridge line approach a little bit safer. As with the rest of Burton's lineup, Shrinkage technology reduces your footprint by a full boot size, and that means less overhang so you stay locked on edge, instead of booting out. When you point it down, you'll appreciate the B3 Gel in the heel, which stops heel bruises dead in their tracks. When your life depends on precise control, look no further than the Driver X.

Burton Driver X Reviews:

Positive Reviews:

The Driver X is one of the stiffest boots on the market. It has the most response out of any boot I have ever ridden over the last 15 years. I ordered my street size and it fits pretty well. Its definitely a bit tight/snug at first but it does pack out as most boots due after some riding but not nearly as fast. They are also fairly light comparable to something like the weight of the Motos. I have high arches as well which usually is an issue with some of the boots I have had in the past but the footbeds in these fit my feet pretty good. If you want a super stiff boot that wont let you down at high speeds and gives you all the response you need at the slightest shift in your weight you will definitely want to check out the Driver Xs.

I got these boots after having a pair of Driver X boots from about four years ago. I never had any problems with my first pair and I was very happy with them. However, on the second day of using my new boots, the plastic hook on the quick-lace system snapped on one. It's most likely just a freak thing (and not a big issue as they're being replaced under warranty), but it's still a little annoying. Other than that, the boots are great. Stiff, responsive and comfortable.
Also, make sure that you get this boot smaller than your normal shoe size. I usually wear a size 11 on my Nike shoes, but on these boots I needed to downsize a full size to size 10 to find my perfect fit. Keep this in mind when purchasing!

These boots are stiff and awesome

I have been using these boots for about a month and a half now in the 2013-14 season. They are really firm and stiff and are exactly what I wanted in a replacement boot to my old Ride Anthems, which where soft and floppy. I can carve and cruise with total confidence and razor sharp accuracy in these guys. They provide tons of support across the footbed and the ankle. These may not be the boots for you if you want ankle articulation for doing tricks and jibbing though. My only feedback for improvement would be to find a better way to stow the lacing system than having to roll up the laces and stuff them into little side pockets. But that is not a big issue, just a minor area for improvement.
Northwest StratoVolcano at REI on 12/12/2013

I got these a half size smaller than my street shoe and they fit great. My heal locks in well and I still don't feel like my leg is too tight. The response is great with these boots. I have a bad ankle and I use to have to tape my ankles or wear braces before I could go out on the mountain but with these boots my ankle is locked in and feels great.

Seuby at Backcountry.com on 11/19/2013

This boot is Stiff!! and I love it! I got my normal size (11.5) and it fits perfectly.

Brian at Backcountry.com on 12/16/2013

Great boot if your don't have small heels or thinner calf mussels.

Negative Reviews:

Not the boot for me

When Burton says "very stiff" they are not messing around! I bought this boot hopeful that it would rip at speed. It does that without a doubt. Unfortunately, the boot offers no ankle articulation and makes control in fine, slower speed situations impossible. There is no flex in the boot for the fine motor movements required for slower speeds or traversing. The lacing system is pretty awful in my opinion, getting out of the boot reminds me of my Lange ski boots and the lace storage system seems like an afterthought at best. The plastic insert you put in behind the laces also seem like an afterthought but needed to protect the boot from the narrow diameter laces. Ease of use on this boot is more like a ski boot than the comfortable and simple snowboard boots we have come to love. Did I mention that this boot is stiff? I'm 230 pounds and a very aggressive rider. This was way too much boot for me. I will return them.
