Burton Sapphire Snowboard Boots

Snowboarding > BootsRated: 5 by 43 reviews.

Altrec

The jeweled park counterpart to the all-mountain Emerald, Burton's Women's Sapphire features a smooth flex with a skate-like sole. The Thermic Heat Pre-Wired liner isn't new this season, but the feature does make this boot exceptionally popular among riders who don't want to chill their toes while chilling in the park or pipe. This season Burton will offer a slimmed-down Basix battery pack (sold separately) that lightens the load around your feet while warming the liner to as much as 104F--if you can stand cranking the boot thermostat that much. Burton expects a battery life of up to nine hours from a single charge. What Burton did add to the Sapphire this season is a new lightweight outsole with oversized 270-degree Airbag cushioning along the heel area. The cushion helps dampen vibrations so you enjoy more comfort with potentially better board feel. The Airbag is paired with a new Park 2 Molded footbed that consists of a three-layer design with ESS Support shank. The pairing is ideal for women who like to launch and land all day but don't like the jolts and shocks that sometimes linger under arches, heels and toes after a long day in the park. Burton also added a more even (and predictable) flex to the Sapphire with a new Flex Cuff heel hold system and a flex spine. Whether you go big for the entire season or want one of the best combinations of performance features, comfort and park-oriented versatility, the Burton Sapphire is a smart (and even practical) pick with an excellent feature-to-value ratio.

Comfy boot

Rating:****

I got these boots a half size larger since I've had numb toes in the past. After wearing them around the house a number of times I found proper tightening of the liner helped me avoid lacing them up too tight. Though tight, they were comfortable. Then I got them onto the hill.

While the boots packed out well and are quite snug overall, my right foot did have the outside ankle issue someone else mentioned. It wasn't rug burn, just an annoying pressure. I have a few different socks and it happened with all of them. The ankle didn't hurt once the boot was off and, by the 5th day, I think I started getting used to it (boot started adjusting?).

Additionally, my toes got numb, especially on lifts. My left foot warmed up one riding, but my right (my larger foot) stayed tingly. I thought it was my toes getting squished but the boot tip was cold when I wiggled my hand into the toe area. I think I'll look into the heater as the boots are a little too snug still for foot warmers.

Overall I really like the boots! The velcro on the liner is brilliant and goes a long way toward keeping me riding comfortably. The quick lace also works well, especially if you wiggle your foot to get at the lower area. The outside laces are a little slippy, but lacing them 1-3-2 on the hooks helps them from creeping up. I'd recommend these :)

sapphires are the best boot EVER

Rating:*****

These boots freaking rock. I have 5 pairs of sapphire boots over my many years of snowboarding. I have a very skinny ankle and I do not get heal lift in these. I normally wear a size 8 shoe. I used to get these in a 6 1/2...I like 'rm snug. this last year I went up to a 7.5 cuz I was coaching a lot, so lots of standing at comps and on jumps and so on. I do not think I would go to a size 8. they would be too loose and I would loose the heal hold as well. These do pack out and mold to your foot with the natural heat of your foot. I also LOVE these because of the heater system....I do not know how I lived life with out the heaters. You need to buy the burton battery packs. I never complain ever about cold feet. There is a nice soft furry liner that makes it easy to slide your foot in and out. I get a rediculous amount of comments about how cute and awesome the design of these boots are...I got them in the patch work style.

I have tried every brand of snowboard boot and for a small skinny ankle...these are the best fit you can find, hands down.

great boot for skinny ankles!!

Rating:*****

I would wear these ALL the time. These are my 3rd pair of boots since i have started riding and they will probably be my last. I have very skinny ankles and have never been able to find a boot that actually kept my foot in place (I would turn toe side and my heel would lift up making it very hard for me to control the responsiveness of my board). I had burton freestyle's for 5 years which I really liked but "ugraded" to DC judges which I also thought I liked until I got these. The sapphires are the most comfortable boot I have worn, they have great support, the pads keep my ankles nice and snug, and I know there are all these boots with fancy boa and crazy lacing systems but you really do get the best custom fit with regular old laces. These also have a spot for a heater pack so if you are always freezing like me and wear toe warmers, you can get an electric one so you don't have to mess with those anymore. I am so glad I bought these. Oh and I have them in coach and every one on my ski team is obsessed with them, even random people have commented how sweet they are.

Lovin' my fancy heated boots

Rating:*****

I have had a lot of problems with my feet and these are they best boarding boots I have ever had. I was disappointed that the heater was sold separately but it is totally worth it. They keep your feet nice and warm all day. The heat switch does occasionally move by itself but I was thinking a small piece of tape would secure it for a full day of riding. I did have to retighten the liner at least once during the day but this often happens to me because I have a narrow foot. Be sure to break them in for at least a week around the house before you go out. They are also pretty true to size.

Worth Every Penny

Rating:*****

I've tried out 4 pairs of boots and wore a size 7 in every pair so I was a bit surprised when the 7s in these didn't fit me. At first they felt fine but after about 45 mins my feet felt like they were falling asleep. I traded them in for a size larger, and now I am well pleased with these boots! I went snowboarding at temps in the single digits with a biting wind and my feet were warm. They were easy enough to get on and off. They didn't feel "clunky" like 3 of the 4 other pairs had. Last but not least, I could feel what was going on between my board and me.

Great boots

Rating:****

I have skinny ankles so I did have to put in the j-bars, but they are the first boots I've worn with minimal heel slip. I also had to buy them 1/2 size large to avoid numb toes. Very cushy boot and very adjustable with the lace system. The warming liner is a cool idea, but at $70 a battery, I didn't bother. I did a lot of back country hiking with them and it was as comfortable as wearing my hiking boots. The boots look damn good too (in white) :)

toasty toes

Rating:*****

they are true to size... i wear a size 6 casual shoe and my toes just barely reach the front of the boot. the boot has a nice grip on the heel to keep your feet from slipping out. they are very light weight and comfortable like a skate shoe. i bought the heat packs that are compatible with the boot which are awesome and adjustible. the only thing is that the design on the boot is not as bright as it looks online

Good boot but inside cushions can irritate

Rating:****

I just bought these boots this winter and boarded with them a few times. I like the power lacing and the inner boot that velcro's up, however there are 2 pads on the inside of the inner boot that I think are supposed to hold your heel/achilles tendon. I don't have a very prominent achilles tendon and the pads end up scraping against my ankle. After a while it feels like a rug burn and can be really uncomfortable.

Sapphire Boot

Rating:*****

My first day out in these was a little rough. I had to find the sweet spot of how tight i could tie them without causing my feet to fall asleep. 3 days in and i think i've broken them in almost perfectly. I rode the Burton Lodi's last year which is a pretty soft boot. I wanted something a little stiffer and these are exactly what i was looking for. Not too stiff, not too soft.

Thermo-fitted & Great, so far...

Rating:*****

Basically stole these boots from Whiskey for my lady. They were around $90... She WAS riding 32's prospects which were roughly 2 seasons old and the difference was night&day. She went from managing ONLY 2 runs before hitting the bar at Sun Valley, to FULL day (no complaints and a cheaper tab) at Snowbasin, UT... Dudes, keep the tabs low, buy your lady Burton.

Negative Reviews:

Great at first...numb in 10 mins

Rating:**

I wear a street size 8 in pumps/flats and 8.5 in boots/sneaks. Tried these on in an 8 and my toes went tingly and numb after 5 minutes. But they had the perfect flexibility, cushioning, heel grip, and the Therm-ic heat element so I bought them in an 8.5 thinking they were just a wee too small. They arrived 2 days ago and I've tested them out around the house 4 times now and each and every time my toes start to tingle and go numb after about 10 minutes of walking around. I've tried loosening the liner ties, loosening the outer ties...nothing. The are SO perfect everywhere and then, slowly, subtly, my toes tingle and that's that.

A real shame because they have great heel grip and padding. There must be too much pressure somewhere that just cuts off my circulation or puts pressure on some nerves.

Next...

stiff boots

Rating:**

I had to return the sapphires. I got the right size, but these boots were stiff and uncomfortable for me. After a while my feet felt slightly numb, maybe you have to break them in. Anyway, I bought the lodi instead and I like them and they're cheaper. I get a 1/2 size up from my normal shoe size in burton boots, since I wear thick socks.

no go

Rating:**

i didn't like these, they wer way stiff and rubbed my feet and were way way to tight. i had to stop riding and switch into my old boots. the patchwork design is way cute though although i don't think they tend to make that one anymore. anyway, i wouldn't recommend these.
