Review on Byer Hammock
I got this hammock about a week ago and immediately took it out to test it. Some people on other sites say it is a bit hard and complicated with its micro-rope set-up. I disagree completely. You have an adjustable system that comes with the hammock and in my opinion is quite easy to set-up. Adjust the rope through metal toggle to your needed length, stick it through the loop on the other side of the rope and you're done. No need to go out and by a 20 dollar slap strap system. It is comfortable and you can lay either diagonally or horizontally. Packs up tight and when laying in it you can use the attached packing pouch as an odds-and-ins holder. Also, personally I would not go and buy one of these 60-70 dollar rain fly's. I am just using a cheap, waterproof, and lightweight tent footprint and using that as the fly. Same thing and a heck of a lot cheaper, probably lighter as well. Anyway, after using this I feel like paying the extra 15-20 dollars for an ENO is just paying for the cool logo. Get this one if you just want a good, lightweight hammock.
I got two of these to try out. Once they arrived I ran outside to set em up. Which took me all of 2 mins. Where I live we get high wind gusts during this time of year, and today was no exception. Plus living up on the mountain gives me more wind than normal. Today's gusts were about 40 mph, but when I laid down in this it was AWESOME. Of all the things I've bought from REI this is my favorite. My wife and kids loved em too. (my wife is not an outdoors person). But told me to get online and buy two more so all of us can sleep in them on our next camping trip.
I am a bit concerned about some of the stitching. I set it up on my patio as soon as I got home and found a few threads coming loose. Hopefully more don't come out. But other than that it is super comfortable and super easy to set up. I was laying in it in less than a couple of minutes after pulling it out.
The product description says it it 19 oz, but that is not true. It says on the box that it is 15 oz and I would believe that, as it is very light. Its also really easy to repack in its bag.
Relax at Camp
This is terrific for backpacking (if you'll be in an area with plenty of trees). It is fully self-contained with ingenious and effective hanging hardware/cords. It is a great after you get camp set up -- to read, nap, or chat with friends. Every backpacker who's seen or tried ours has run off to buy one of their own. It is on the heavy side, but much lighter than any of it's competitors. Highly recommended for comfort-oriented hikers. We use it on overnight and day hikes. (Be prepared for arguments over who gets to use it though if you only have one.)
Review of Byer Hammock
I got this hammock about a week ago and immediately went out to give it a try. Some people have said it can be a bit hard to set-up, but I think its quite easy. The adjustable toggles on it save you from having to go and buy a slap strap system. It is very light. Mine weighed in at 14 ounces. I am using a lightweight, waterproof tent footprint as a rain fly. I would highly recommend this hammock to anyone. In my opinion this is a great hammock that is equal to other more highly priced hammocks.
I just bought this hammock and ran home to immediately set it up in our yard (as we do with all our new toys!) and I love it! I can't wait to get it out on the trail. The rope/handles that come with it are super easy to use and the weighted handles make it easy to toss over a tree branch for us height-challenged folks! The only con I see in the future is that I will want to bypass the day-hikes and lay in the hammock and read instead!!!!!
good product at a reasonable price
purchased this hammock for some relaxing on a car camping trip. I thought some of the other brands were a bit pricey to start AND they also needed accessories to hang them. This one came with some rope for hanging. Extremely easy setup. Comfortable. Seems like it will meet our needs of occassional use. Held me securely and I'm at the limit of the weight range. Lightweight and packs up easily in its own attached pouch. I'll probably buy another or two so the whole family has one.
I bought this for my 7yr old nephew. He is very creative and loves to climb and construct things. right now it's a swing in his room, but it has many possibilities... as a sun tent, part of a fort, a swing in the trees. It is light weight and durable. He can pack it in it's pouch and go. The parachute fabric tabs add to the endless configuration possibilities.
All you need
I have a backyard hammock but I wanted something for camping. I wasn't sure if I was going to like the nylon feel, or how study it would be. I'm big dude. Turns out this is awesome. Very comfortable. In fact I had to fight to get in it. My fellow campers kept jumping in it.
