Excellent Choice!

I've hit the samon run in Alaska for about the last five years and it always seemed I had the wrong flies. I bought this product this summer and was thouroughly impressed.
In fact, I caught so many fish with the pink patterns my guide stayed up late tying similar patterns. The flies were pretty durable and usually made it through 20 to 30 fish before having to replace.
The mouse pattern was the only thing I would change because they did not take abuse well and fell apart. A different material (like elk hair) to help it float and a shorter tail would appeal to me more than the ones included.

Alaska Fly Selection

The Best of Alaska fly selection worked very good on a recent fishing trip in Alaska for king salmon, rainbows and pike. There were a few flies in the selection that we didn't use but the ones we did worked excellent. We landed several nice king salmon, some rainbows and a nice northern pike. It is a great selection for anyone looking to try a first time fly fishing trip to the last frontier.

Check hook legality for location!!

Be advised that NONE of these flies are legal to use on the Kenai Peninsula. Spent the summer in Alaska in '08 and could not use these anywhere on the peninsula. Also, If you catch some of the larger second run reds, the hooks WILL be straightened out. They are good for dollies and rainbows, but not so much for a reds and DEFINITELY not for silvers. Best advice is to tie your own on a 4x strong hook. If going towards Cooper Landing/Homer, the point of the hook cannot be more than 3/8" from the shank. Just a ceveat emptor.
