Glad I Had 'Em

Just returned from an elk hunt in Wyoming and wore these gaiters every day and every mile I walked. Rain, sleet, 14" of snow and dozens of creek crossings and they never let me down. The toe hook frequently came unclasped from my boot lace, but never caused a problem. They are easy to put on and remove, even when iced up. They fit snug around the leg, which I liked because I think it helped keep them from rubbing when walking as the material isn't as quiet as I was expecting. Two small complaints: 1) the elastic draw string at the knee would not stay tight, allowing snow to make its way in from the top, and 2) would like to see elastic at the base (around the boot) to minimize water entry during creek crossings. Very good product.

Camo Gaitors

I purchased these Outfitter Camo gaitors to complement my Microtex tops/bottoms for a late season elk hunt. They worked quietly and flawless. I'm buying a pair for my son for our 2014 elk hunt. Great job Cabelas producing quality and functional hunting gear!!

Negative Reviews:

Not typical for cabelas gear

i bought these from the store and didn't have the reviews available or I would not have purchased. I have an older pair that work well except for "snow balling " on the strap. These had a removable strap and should have been perfect. However, two major issues. 1. no elastic on the bottom (like my old ones) which means you have to pull very tight with the strap to get the bottom to seal. This makes the gaiters a several inches shorter below the knee. 2. the elastic draw cord and lock does not keep them up. Because there is no up tension the lace hook never stays hooked. This will be the first product I will return to Cabelas do to poor performance.

poorly designed

These gaiters are entirely too noisy to be used effectively for spot and stalk hunting. The fit around the base is too loose, allowing debris to enter. The upper calf system of securing the gaiter is made from flimsy elastic cord that cannot be secured as it slips through the pinch point. The overall height of the gaiter should be taller to allow full leg coverage, just below the knee. Also, the opening that allows one put them on should have a zipper in addidtion to the velcro closure. I wish the ultimate gaiter from cabelas was still available.
