Cabela's Alaskan Guide Series Mini Alpha Knife By Buck Knives -
The Alaskan Guide Series Mini Alpha Knife by Buck completely redefines how performance is judged in compact modern cutlery. The 2-1/2" drop-point blade is crafted of S30V steel. Developed by Crucible Steel, S30V is made up of metallic powders fused together under intense pressure and heat. It is tempered under extremely high temperatures then cooled in a cryogenic freezer. The resulting metal delivers a fine combination of edge retention (45% greater than 420HC), flexibility and hardness (59-61 Rockwell) while remaining easy to sharpen with conventional stones. This steel also has a high chromium content for oxidation resistance. For even greater corrosion resistance, each knife is treated with a titanium aluminum nitride coating. Our field testing and independent Cutlery Allied Trade Research Association tests prove these knives outperform those crafted with other blade metals. Features Rosewood scale handles and includes a leather sheath. Made in USA.
Overall length: 6-1/4".
Weight: 3.6 oz.
Available: Rosewood.

pleasantly surprised

Admittedly I was skeptical about this brand, having had other knives that dulled quickly while skinning deer. The Alaskan guide Mini Alpha is only Mini in name, it stayed sharp through the entire skinning process, and handled well, even in the very cold weather. It will be on my belt from now on.

S30V Steel is the only way to go

I have tons and tons of knives but there's only 2 that i now use when hunting. This one and the vangaard. They both have the S30V steel, which stays sharper longer than any other knife i own. I highly recommend this product for gutting and skinning game.

Incredible Knife

This is a fantastic knife. Super sharp right out of the box. I used mine recently on a big doe I shot during rifle season. Easily cut through skin and meat. Only downside is that the gorgeous wood handle can get a little slippery when covered with blood.

Good quality

The balance and grip of this knife is excellent. I was a bit disappointed in the abity to hold an edge. It was very sharp when I recieved it, but dulled quickly when dressing an elk.
