Cabela's Alaskan Guide Series Vanguard Rubber-Handled Knife By Buck Knives -
Sporting a 4-1/8" drop-point crafted of strong S30V steel, the Vanguard has a rubber handle and a polished brass butt and guard. Developed by Crucible Steel, S30V is made up of metallic powders fused together under intense pressure and heat. It is tempered under extremely high temperatures then cooled in a cryogenic freezer. The resulting metal delivers a fine combination of edge retention (45% greater than 420HC), flexibility and hardness (59-61 Rockwell) while remaining easy to sharpen with conventional stones. This steel also has a high chromium content for oxidation resistance. For even greater corrosion resistance, each knife is treated with a titanium aluminum nitride coating. Our field testing and independent Cutlery Allied Trade Research Association tests prove this knife outperforms those crafted with other blade metals. It also has a Codura® nylon sheath. Made in USA.
Overall length: 8-1/2".
Weight: 6.3 oz.

Cabela's Alaskan Guide Series Vanguard Rubber-Handled Knife By Buck Knives Reviews:

Positive Reviews:

Nice knife

I'd give it 5 stars but the wooden handle is slick when wet and kind of hard to hang onto. If I had to do it over I would buy the rubber handle model for that reason. Other than that it is crazy sharp and hold an edge 4X as well as the Kershaw knife I've used for years. I've always liked a drop point design and the shape of this blade is about as good as it gets.

Great knives

I have owned the folding guide knife for 5 years. I have had nothing but great service from it, Deer after Deer. I recieved this Rosewood knife for Christmas, it's great looking and fully expect it to perform like the other. These knives hold an edge unlike any knife I have owned. If you want the best, look no further.

Best buck knives you can buy!

I have owned many other knives and brands and nothing compares to these knives in sharpness and durability. I also own the black vanguard model and that one is still like new after gutting and skinning many animals. The leather sheath and handle on this knife is also very nice.

Negative Reviews:

Disappointed - Front Bolster and Handle not Tight

I purchased this knife early in the fall and used it to field dress five whitetail deer. The blade has held a great edge and seems well designed for removing entrails and separating rib cartilage. Unfortunately after the first use I noticed the front bolster and rubber handle are not tight on the tang and the handle and bolster pivot side to side about 1/32 inch when applying enough force to cut cartilage. Tightening the rear bolster did not stop the movement of the handle and front bolster. This is not the fit that I expect for a knife made with such high quality steel.
