Cabela's Armor Xtreme Molded Pistol Case Reviews:

Positive Reviews:

needed purchase

I was looking for a sturdy case to carry my pistol in that would take a beating in the truck, boat etc. and this one fit the bill. I like the fact that the foam pieces were whole and I could make the cutouts as I wanted. A good buy.

great to have

Excellent molded case. Needed to transport a firearm across country and did not want to take my aluminum case. TSA checked it and it arrived without harm. Well worth the price.

Negative Reviews:

Nice case, strong, but not secure at all

I purchased this case for a trip I'll be taking and will need to check it with the TSA. The case seems very strong to take the abuse I'm sure those lovely airline baggage people will put it through. As you can see from the picture, the lid can be locked at both front corners via two pad locks.. Great.. The latches are designed well so not to open by vibration. Another positive.. There is one major flaw in the design though, that is the hinges. After opening the case a total of 3 times, I noticed one of the hinges had worked itself out a little bit. I thought, no big deal, the factory probably didn't press it in all the way.. I grabbed a small punch and mallet to tap it in only to find out that with a simple press of the finger it slid right in. Hmm.. if it slides in that easy, it will probably side out that easy as well.. It did.. So with a simple house/car key, the entire hinge pin can be slid out. The hinge on the other side is exactly the same. So I tested it to see if I was able to access the firearm inside. So with the case pad locked in both locations, I was able to slide both hinge pins out with a key and very light pressure from my bare hand, open the standard latch next to the pad locks, and open the lid with the pad locks still attached and locked. So, any airport baggage worker with a common key, screw driver, paper clip, or even pen for that matter can very easily slide the hinge pins out and access the fire arms inside. I'm sure even common vibration will cause the pins to work themselves out. Good product otherwise but can't be trusted to keep unauthorized hands out.

Overpriced

Decent case, but overpriced. For the money you're much better off buying the Plano gun guard model.
