Worked for me
Got the bag for my son who was the 'back man' in the canoe. I had an under seat pack. He tells me it worked fine for him. He stored a multitude of 'stuff' in it which remained safe from water and convenient leaving it on the canoe for portages.
Thwart Bag
I only have the thwart bag and so far it works great. I've never swamped the canoe so I can't attest to it's waterproofing ability but the generic splashes have not leaked in the bag. Works well.

Full of Water after each rain
I bought this thinking I would be able to store gear under my rowers seat without it getting wet. Everytime it rains the bag has a bunch of water in it and I have to dry out the bag and the gear. The water apparently comes in through the zipper or through where the straps are connected to the bag. Just because the bag is made of water proof material when you stitch it together and dont tape the seams, water will find its way in. All cabelas waterproof tackle bags have the same problems.
